Sujet: Still need answers on data loss....

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I have seen and asked many questions on different data loss,

Now I just bought another external hard drive I copied everything from the old drive to the new one,
And when I tried out the new copy hard drive all the BPM's are gone and most all the songs that I had changed the titles and artists have reverted back to what I will call their original form,

So I will have to allow VDJ to find all the BPM tags AND I will have to rename and title many songs, lots of wasted time.
What happened why didn't all that important information make the trip when I did the copy from the old drive to the new drive?

Please give me tech answers critiquing my questions helps nothing and wastes time and space.
Many thanks,
Cheers,
P.

Hey!

In the root of every drive (except for the C drive where it's located under Documents/My Documents > Virtual DJ) is a file called VirtualDJ Local Database v6.xml

You need to make sure you copy this file also along with your music.

NOTE: The xml file contains absolutely file locations for each file in the database, including the drive letter.

If you copy all of your data from your 'D:' to you 'E:' then the XML file will still try and point to the folder path on the 'D:'.

You can fix this issue (before opening VDJ) by opening the XML file in notepad and performing a 'Replace' (Edit > Replace) and enter into the 'find what' field D:\ and 'replace with' field E:\

hope this helps!

Many thanks!
I had a feeling it was something in the path, and with your help I took the next step in doing things better,
It worked very well....

Other another option- change the driver letter in disk management to the same drive letter you had before.

So here is a couple questions,
Since the main database doesnt care and in my case I have what I will call a bad path in the "play list" can you go into the Play list and fix it's bad path?

If I have two USB external drives and assign both of them the letter "V" ( for example )what would happen if they both were plugged in at the same time?
