Sometimes the best laptop money can buy isn't always the best laptop for your purpose here. So here it is, my suggestion. Since you want to stick with pc .

Despite what marketing you've read an i5 is plenty heck even last years core 2's were fine. Ram well that depends if you want 8 gig's go for it just understand if you use a 32 bit os you can only see 3.5 of it. Run 64 bit and risk incompatible hardware issues. Video well you let me just say VDJ can run just fine on 64 megs per display 128 total. Dedicated ram is good however not entirely necessary because we have some users mixing video just fine on 9400 (btw the 320 is just about the same spec wise). So if you want cutting edge go ahead and pay for it but just know thats excatly what they want you to do.

I run a maxed out HP DV9500 CTO and love the dual internal drives. I don't have to hook up an external drive... saving 1 USB port, an AC outlet, and the time to hook it all up, and tear it all down, and pack it away...ya da ya da ya da.

For myself I would buy a i7 with Windows 7 and dual drives. Buy the best you can afford. Mine cost $1785.97 3 years ago.

I renewed my service contract wth HP for 1 year. Whew expensive !!! Like $400. You never know when something will go poof when taking it on the road!

I'll put another one together before I pay another $400 per year service agreement. I'll fix it myself.

I always seem to run into problems when other technicians work on my stuff. HP was nice enough to replace some broken parts, but I had to send the laptop back again after it died.

There was a video problem from a previous "return/fix". Video always wanted to go out the VGA port and would leave my main screen blank. I thought it was in "technician" mode, but whatever it was zapped the motherboard power eventually. They got it right now, and I'm working great.

You should also plan on a spare "something" to take with you on gigs. I take along an extra laptop and dual CD player to most gigs. Having a back up plan will save embarrassment and your pay.

Set your price, do your research. Good Luck

asus has a 17" with an i5 4 gigs ram 1 gig nvidia card and all the bells and whistles for around $700ish USD i know of two people who have them and they are very very happy with them.

If you plan to use virtual dj7 with multiple decks, I would suggest to wait for virtual dj 7 and how much horsepower it needs. Perhaps more memory & cpu & graphic card than using just 2 decks. But if you buy as good as you can afford, it can go no wrong. i7 is better processor than i5.

Personally I'm quite interested in Alienware M11x R2, as being ultraportable yet powerful laptop:

Hi cmoe, I have the exact same laptop you're thinking about getting (Sony Vaio i7, 6GB RAM, 1GB video) and it runs fantastic! I dont have any issues with it, even for full screen videos it runs smooth and doesn't use much of the CPU. Lots of horsepower with the i7! You wont be disappointed.

Also, updates are always free for VDJ Pro users :-)

thanx dj fx think I'll gofor it

jaako .....version 7 runs fine on very normal equipment as i saw at the DJXPO .....

no need to wait for anything and no need to get the most high end stuff

Cyder just went out of his way to tell ya , do your research and don't be seduced by the latest n gr8st ....

cmoe what type of dj are you ?

if you do clubs exclusively i would say to own a good laptop or 2 .....

if you do mobil work, many times , if not all, you will have plenty of space to set up in.....

which means you don't have to settle for a laptop ...... you could use a VERY powerful

desktop for less money than a comparable laptop ( if a comparable laptop exists , without you

building it yourself) and a HUGE screen or 2 or 3 .....

i have 3 desktop systems and only 1 laptop
