Sujet: mac or windows?

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Hello,
I'm considering to buy a new gig laptop again. VDJ 7 seem to need more horsepower when playing multiple decks, also loading times seem to have grown.

I know quite well what kind of specs I need for my laptop.

The big question now is: mac or windows for VDJ7? How well does VDJ7 perform on mac? Any limitations comparing to win7? Less effects? Less controllers? Is mac version more reliable than win7 version? My knowledge of the mac version is from several years ago....

Best solution is a Macbook Pro bootcamped with XP Pro 32 bit.

Works perfect for me, and you have the advantage of both MacOS & Windows on the same machine (or both running together with parallels)

Why do you have to use windows bootcamp? Sounds like it's still not time to buy mac...

It's not "mac or windows". It's "mac + windows". Definitely recommend Macbook for great hardware (not mac software).

I have not tried out V7 yet (will do that later today) but my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) i streets ahead of the the equivalent PC laptop I used to use - much faster to load and much more responsive and best of all - no crashes!

I have been using VDJ for 2 years and run it on a macbook pro 17" and bootcamp it to run vdj in windows 7 which runs VDJ easily with full HD video.

I would prefer to run in OSX but from my experience I have found a few major advantages to running in Windows
.
There are a lot more plugins available for windows not a major thing but it does help, but the main reason I run in windows is bacause of how the different operating systems handle problems.

On a mac because of the way it protects system memory if VDJ encounters a major problem it will instantly close VDJ which means you lose all audio instantly. Its not a fault of the OS or VDJ its just the way it is.

In windows in the same scenario VDJ will pop up an error message but carry on playing the current to the end of the songs, leaving you to be ready to switch to a backup with plenty of time and no interuption.

Just my findings but for me its a major thing.

I used the Mac version of VDJ for a few months but went back to Windows because the Mac version wasn't as complete, however that may have changed with the V7 release. There is still the issue of plugins for Mac but if you're not doing a lot of video then it's not really a problem.

Both Mac & Windows versions are totally stable but if you have the money then the Macbook Pro machines are superb.

At least if you go down that route you have the best of both worlds!

I am using VDJ7 on my Macbook Pro and it runs flawlessly.

Sure, you don't have as many plugins or effects but I am a wedding dj and I need reliability...

Macbooks just run so well... hard to consider a pc now that I have used a mac.
