From what I've been reading, the XML database file holds the path info of where the music is stored, playlist, etc.
If I use Laptop #1 and have it's music on drive M and I want to setup my backup Laptop #2 and use a 3rd party program to SYNC my music on both laptops, both using drive M, (a partitioned drive on each laptop), that should work okay IF I have them using the same drive letter, yes? Providing I copy the XML file to the backup Laptop #2 as well, right?
Likewise, if I used two external USB drives, but both were see as drive M, that should work too. But now there is two XML files, one on the local C drive and one gets dumped on the USB external drive, right?
With PCDJ-FX, it was so easy to keep music added or deleted by using a SYNC program and not having to copy thousands of songs through a program (like VDJ) when maybe I have altered 50 songs.
Am I correct with my thinking of how VDJ uses the XML database?

Also, if someone had files on drive F and were now using a drive labeled M, I would think you could edit the XML file and do a FIND AND REPLACE on F: replacing it with M: and all should once again work, yes?

If your songs are on C then VDJ will store a database on user>documents>virtualdj
If your songs are also on any external drives or a HDD partition, VDJ will put a directory for those files in the root.
This is to support hot swap, so you can plug an external HDD in to VDJ and irrespective of the assigned letter the songs should be instantly accessible.
You can use find and replace on the XML file, pspad is a great XML editor.
