Well finally coming onto the scene as a DJ. Been looking into this for awhile and finally diving in. I haven't gotten a setup yet but have been messing around with Virtual DJ and other software. Found this one to be the best to learn on so far. But now i want to start putting things into action.

I have been working with Virtual DJ for a bit now and believe i have all the basics down and want to progress it. Been looking into many things

1) My first piece of equipment: the mixer. Dont really know exactly what i should be looking for. I do know that it needs to be compatible with virtual dj and dj software? Its hard using a mouse to try and control all functions on Virtual DJ. Really want to get some actual practice at my house so i need to first find this mixer. Someone offered to sell me a Denon DN-X300 for $150, but like i said i have no idea what to look for. Any suggestions for starter mixer/equipment? (dont have a big budget because i am just starting out)

2) How to get my computer compatible with the dj setup. I been trying to get my Computer and Headphones to separate into different channels (Current song through the speakers and having the song next in cue through my headphones so i can beat match and such). I do have the stock sound card that came with the motherboard. Its is the Realtek High Definition Audio. I managed to get the song playing to channel through both speakers and headphones, just cant separate the channels for the two. How would i go about splitting the two? Is there anything i need to purchase to do so?

3) Looking for some good tutorials into getting in depth with DJ'ing. I have managed to learn the basics of the Virtual DJ functions and have been working on Beat Mixing (think thats what it is called: mixing one song into another while matching the beat to transition songs). What are the next things i should touch basis on an learn?

Any other topics, suggestions, and anything in general would help. Appreciate any help offered and hope to get this kicked off.
Thanks again

i think your fist step should be buying pro version and then a midi controller i use herculese rmx . with vdj pro and a midi controller like rmx you would be good to go and in the future you could add things like external mixer time code cd or vynal and the possibilities would be endless the reason to go pro is for support and stability and you will get access to all the perks or vdj but most of all to support the best dj software their is virtual dj trust me go pro...... good luck..

You won't be able to have a different mix in your headphones with the stock soundcard you have in your computer. Your computer only puts audio out in one channel- so your headphones and speakers will always play the same thing. You will need an external sound card to split the audio into two channels- one for headphones and one for speakers. You can buy an external soundcard like the Numark DJ/io, but since you are looking for a mixer, I suggest you get an external midi controller with a soundcard built in. Something like the Hercules RMX or 4-xm, or the Numark omni control will act as a mixer, turntables, midi controller, and external soundcard for a decent price. research other midi controllers, too, and make an informed decision.

This is not true. You can configure VDJ to split the audio output so the CUE/PFL goes to the left channel and the MASTER to the right. Yes it's a mono output, but you do get the listen to the opposite deck in the phones.

You will need a special lead made or to chain some stock leads together to get the connectivity in place but it is possible as I have just done it for my sons Hercules DJControlMP3 e2. We took a standard mini-jack to RCA lead, cut of the two RCA's and put another mini-jack on one end to go to his 2.1 PC speakers and on the other put a 1/4" female socket for his headphones...

Cheers,

Roy
