Sujet: Looking for a controller (first time DJ)

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I'm looking for a controller to DJ with, I'm running a Macbook Pro and Virtual DJ 5.2.....

I'm curious as to what I need... I see cards with no soudn cards or built in sound cards....

Would like something that would be all inclusive, limit is about 400 dollars. I'd like it to be the following:

Mac to Controller to Mixer then to the rack of amps.

Help me out guys!

Like I said, I got about 400 dollars, maybe 500 if I stretch it but that's the absolute MAX.

I also would prefer a board that's wider, not something small and compact.

Do a search of the forum. The last few days, there has been a flood of discussions about controllers.

Haha yea I had a lot to do with that flood, wanted to make sure I got the right one.

Before you purchase anything, check every possible resource you have for the best deal. When looking for new stuff, definitely bookmark www.proaudiostar.com and make sure to call them to ask for the best price they could give you. (They gave me about $350 off retail with my purchase yesterday)

Make sure to check sites like craigslist or ebay to maybe find a $600-700 controller for the price you are looking for.

With that said, as a recommendation from my research, Ive found that the Hercules RMX is very popular, coming with Virtual DJ LE (But upgrade to pro for the discounted price =) ) to help you get started with the program.

Or if you find that the RMX isn't for you, try out the VMS4 http://www.proaudiostar.com/dj-gear/computer-dj-gear/american-audio-vms4.html

I know you said 500 is a stretch, but like I said, call them and see what they can do for you.

Good Luck,

DJ Mack

The DJ Steel is an RMX but without the sound card - and you will pay upwards of £70 for a decent sound card.

If you are starting from zero, and wish to limit your expenditure, you could look at the Numark Mixtrack Pro (£169.00) or ION DISCOVER DJ PRO (£179.00)

They are basically the same unit, except the ION unit has the ability to accept an iPod/iPhone and costs £10 more, here in the UK.

Info on ION Discover Pro: http://www.ionaudio.com/discoverdjpro

Info on Numark Mixtrack Pro: http://www.numark.com/mixtrackpro

Both come with and LE version of Virtual DJ so an upgrade path to PRO would be available (as far as I can know).

get the RMX ,then with your discount get a legit copy of VDJ

that should cost $500 or $550 ,maybe less

i agree... RMX ALL THE WAY.

xxx

In my opinion your best options would be either VMS4, Mixtrack Pro or RMX. I wouldn't bother getting Hercules Steel and a sound card when you could just get the RMX which is nearly exactly like the Steel but has a built in sound card. Just of out curiosity do you have a mixer or anything else that could go with the controller?

Best of luck with your controller hunting ;)

Yea, we have a Peavey PV20 on order which is what I"ll pipe the music from the controller into, and from there it'll go to the amps.

Probably going to get the Hercules RMX after searching and yalls replies.

The RMX will allow me to play a song off of one deck, while listening/cueing up the other deck through my headphones right?

Meaning while one song is playing, I can get the other song ready where I want it to come in?

i think the RMX is much better than a STEEL as its got a good soundcard, its bigger, better, heavier has more features and bigger jog-wheels for scratching and is made ov metal, not plastic.

.....or maybe that..... lol
point taken :)

Hi, What about SYNQ-PCM1. Anyone using it? Thanks.

Depends which type of controller he preffers and/or feels comfortable with. This probably involves going around to dj stores and getting the feel of severall controllers. In my opinion I preffer a normal flat controller than rack controller, has a better feel to it and I'm used to it. :/
If I was in your position I'd go with either the Hercules MK4 or the RMX. :)

All the best with finding your controller. :)

Seana...the RMX and Steel are essentially the same unit, with the exception that the RMX has a built in sound card. They both have a plastic chassis that is then encased in a steel outer shell and are the same size (35cm x 25cm).

If you remove the steel casing (and face plate), which I did for my Konsole project, the unit is actually very light.

Please don't think I'm favouring one over the other, as they satisfy different requirements - RMX for those that want a built in sound card, STEEL for those that already have a sound card or want to keep their sound card options open.

The buttons, knobs, jogs and faders are common to both units.

My STEEL is currently hiding in a cupboard, somewhere, and it has never let me down (on the rare occasions I use it).

Given that NAMM 2011 is currently ongoing, I'd suggest to the thread starter to hang on and see what becomes available in the next few months.

Just wanted to update, after looking around I ended up buying the Hercules RMX, should be here between Thursday and Saturday, depends when the company I ordered from gets them back in stock >_<.

I appreciate the input, I'll be sure to upload pics of my setup when I get it in!

Awesome..Happy Mixing when you get your controller ;D

I really belive there is NO best Controller, you need to think of the features you want and go from there, do you do alot of looping, use alot of effects, do you want to be able to scratch, myself I like to have lots of options, having the ability to map every button and knob, slider and plater opens up a world of posibilities, also consider if you want to have 2 deck control or 4 deck control, some controlers are easier than others to map for multiple deck control. also take into account that if you just get what you can afford now, you will eventualy want to upgrade (everyone does) really do your resrarch and even look in to renting one for the weekend before you make your decision.

you can rent controllers?
