Sujet: to use external drive or not ?

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

to be, or not to be, that is the question lol

Jokes aside, just got into the Karaoke side of things and ran a 4 hr show straight off the bat at a surprise 40th the other night..however
VDJ ran without a hitch, apart from one hiccup which was a fault of my own..lost the mouses cursor during a song and forgot it had slipped off my lap screen and onto the external monitor and freaked out for sec lol but not crash or freeze to note ! but,

I know that VDJ uses more cpu in video mode and after about 3 hrs the laptop was hotter than normal despite sitting on a dual fan cooling plate.

Looking at the cpu usage display I also noticed that the karaoke files were running at around 75% and was wondering if this was bordering on a potential seizure ?

I've tweaked all I can outta my system using most of the advise from you guys up here (for which I'm very greatful) so just wanted to know if I'd really be better off 'in the long run' switching the karaoke files to run from an external hard drive or not?

Am I stressing over nothing here, or would this make a noticable difference to the cpu usage ?

I've just watched a youtube vid and dude reckons the karaoke sessions puts more 'pressure' on our processors, hmmm dunno I'm keeping an open mind on this one ;)

Apologies if this questions been done to death on here, but I'm not much of a tech whiz to be honest so if it did come to hooking up an external HDD for using my karaoke files would someone be kind enough to reply with a quick 'step-by-step' guide on how to do this..?

Many thanks in advance people ;)

Just use internal, you can update your lappy so easily. Mine has a 640GB in it, got karaoke, music and vids

Download this program, install it and use it everytime you run videos. http://www.iobit.com/ld/interstitial/. Make sure you have a laptop fan running and if you have room top off your laptop memory.
One other thing if your laptop internal hard drive is 5400 rpm Change it to 7300 rpm, or buy and move files to an external drive with 7300 rpm, this will improve performance.

Good Luck,

Joey...

thanks guys, that game booster cleans ram and closes a lot of background services I wasnt even aware of !
my external back-up drives a 5400 so no point in switching there.

might look at upgrading the internal to a faster one. @Charlie, do you do your own upgrades or use a business to do the job for you ?

I'd be a bag of nerves doing it myself, but if it can be done by myself I'd be willing to give it a shot.

My lappy's a sony vaio NS10L 3gb ram, not sure if I can top the ram up though ?

Yes you can, but if not sure take it to a pro it doesn't cost that much anymore to have it UpGraded and you'll have peace of mind....

Good Luck,

Joey...
