I have a Numark Mixdeck and Virtual DJ. I used to be a mobile DJ several years ago. I took a break for ten years with family and kids, but I just started again, and am still at the practicing, basement DJ stage currently.
When I try to scratch using music files from the computer, it only scratches on the clockwise, "forward" motion. It is silent on the "backwards", counter-clockwise part of the scratch. I can't do a backspin, because it is silent, and the scratches sound funny too.
However, if I switch the source to "DECK", and have a CD in the Mixdeck, then the scratch works going in both directions, like a scratch should. It works fine if the source is a CD. However, it is a pain to remember to switch my inputs over when I want to scratch, and back to PC when I don't, in addition to running the crossfader, etc.
Why is it only doing half a scratch?

That's what happens when "Smart Scratch" is enabled. This silences the backwards scratch, I'm guessing your using the Virtual DJ LE software which I am not familiar with but on my version, you go into the scratch tab and make sure the padlock next to "Smart Scratch" is not lit up.
Hope this helps
