Sujet: Adding subs to my setup

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Hey, just a bit of a newbie question.

I currently have a set up where I have my laptop, pluged into an external soundcard which then feeds into an amp (480w) and two speakers (500w max).

I want to add some subs for added bass to the set up (booom!!!) Would this mean I would need another amp for the subs? And I assume this would then plug into the bass or rear output on my external soundcard??

Helpp Pleasse!!!

Yes, you will need another amp, or powered subs. Which sound card do you use?

Depends on the amp you already have. New amps like one of mine have built in X-overs & you can run mains off of one channel & subs off the other. (although it is still best to run separate amps or get powered subs if you can)

Yessir, you gonna need a second amp or powered sub.

If you're going the passive sub & power amp route, make sure that your new sub amp has a built-in low-pass filter or crossover on it. Many times, these will only have a switch to filter out the highs above a set frequency. I like tweaking, so I like more configurability that that. Personally, I'd rather have a rack-mount crossover or computer-editable built in crossover like on my crown xti.

Thanks for the info guys!!! Bit of a newbie on these things!! X)
