Hey people!
Firstly, I apologise if this has already been raised in another thread, if it has can you point me in the right direction please. If not, here's the issue. I have a laptop running Vista (Yeah I know!) Its a HP (yeah I know) and ever since I bought my RMX (in 2009) its been putting out a crackling sound. I've been lugging my desktop around to gigs so I know there isnt a fault with the RMX itself, or my sound setup (I've tested both).
I really want to get my laptop up and running again, and the specs state it should clearly be able to run VDJ - its a duel core 2.1ghz 4 gb RAM system. I've tried turning the graphics right down to test without video but no luck.
It got 4 USB ports, and I've tried the console in all of them, and I've closed all unnecessary programs.
It's getting close to acceptable on 2 of the ports, so I'm assuming they have a higher bandwidth than the other 2, but when I activate an effect (notably the brake effect) it mashes it all up so its a crackly mess again.
It's odd as this laptop worked when tested with both my DJC and DJC Mk 2 (by Herc.)
Is there any way of configuring the USBs to put out more power (amps as opposed to bandwidth) in case this is the issue? Or would a mains powered USB hub improve things? Finally, can any of the system settings in VDJ be changed to improve the sound quality? I've changed the latency etc settings in the "performance" tab in options.
Just so you know, I'm running the latest version of VDJ 7, and it's happened since I got the console (VDJ 6 I think it was - it was Oct 2009 anyway)
As a last resort I have the product key and the CD to windows XP, but I really don't fancy having to reinstall windows...
Any help would be really appreciated!
Olly

I've tried the suggestions above but its not really helped. I'm trying to figure it out now. Plugged the RMX into the laptop after windows ha booted and taken the battery out. I know its shagged and figured the power draw may be too much to allow sufficient power to the USBs. Been testing today and going to continue tonight. I've turned Windows effects off or right down, so no Aero themes etc. Seems much more stable and isn't overheating now... or so far at least. I'll keep you posted

Hi Nebula,
I've an almost identical laptop to you and I'm having the same problem. I'm using windows 7 so i'm not sure it's Vista at fault.
I find if I use virtual DJ using the built in soundcard it's fine. I only get skipping/popping sounds when i'm using the RMX.
Also i've tried other mixing software and I get the same issues with that so it really looks to me like the issue is with the RMX.
How to fix it? I've no idea as i'm new to the RMX but i'm sure some people on here will have some suggestions.

1) Apply the changes explained in this guide:
http://ts.hercules.com/faqs/eng/her_eng_00364.pdf
2) In the DJ Control Panel, switch to ASIO audio mode, In the ASIO tab, the default setting for the ASIO BUFFER SIZE will be 480 (10 ms).
This is a good average but might not be ideal for all computers. Raise or lower the Buffer Size, one step at a time, then try VDJ for a while, taking notice if the problem gets worst or improves. Repeat until you find the correct setting for your computer.
