Hi guys
Right i have seen lots of problems re this, i have just upgraded to vdj7 pro but the popping noise is always with my Hercules Rmx.. I run on Vista 32 bit on my laptop, have tons of memory et all. It was popping when i used the vdj le version i got with the Hercules too. I have turned off safe mode, turned off my wireless finder button, fiddled with the laptop volumes, got the latest Hercules driver etc but i cant find a solution..
Can some one please help me out who has had this problem and rectified it. I'm in need of using it this Saturday at a gig so any help would be more than appreciated as ever..
Thanks chaps
Ben

Clicking, popping, stuttering and other similar sound issues are caused by performance problems with your computer and/or incorrect sound configuration.
Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/homepage/jpboggis/blogs/4094/Common_performance_issues_and_solutions.html for a list of common causes and their solutions.

I had a similar thing with my herc.
I changed it to use the ASIO driver with 6ms latency, ever since doing this I have not heard a single pop or crackle from the unit.
If you still experience these issues with the ASIO driver selected, check the Performance settings in VDJ (As well as disabling non needed system utilities ie webcams or drives that you wont use... aswell as the internal soundcard if you don't need it).
Ensure that the Latency within VDJ is set to Auto.
As I found with my DN-MC6000 (not with the hercules), the difference between advanced stretching and fast stretching can have a huge difference on the performance of your soundcard.
In addition, are you using the right skin for your screen resolution? If not, and you have the skin maximized, it takes its needless toll on the graphics card which will obviously affect the performance of your system too.
Hopefully with these settings you should be good to go...
Good luck!

Your screen resolution and/or skin size can also have an effect on audio quality when connected with a midi device.

Thanks for the info and advice guys. I have now sorted it. It seems it was a driver which needed updating. I updated the '' AMD USB Filter Driver'' (The info is about half way down this page in the link: http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77821&highlight=crackling )
It has seemed to of stopped it. I also fidled with the skins as suggested which has made a difference too i think. I now have the RMX skin on the lappy as its hard to control the effects or use the RMX to its full extent with the normal VDJ skin, or am i missing something??
Thanks for your help guys, seems like an awfull lot to do to get a great sound but, as most of you know the outcome and final result is the bee's :-)

Glad you got it all sorted...
As for the RMX skin it does help because you can see what all of your buttons are doing (depending on mapping). On the default skin you need to click on various buttons to get up the extra information (like effects/filter) to show, this is because the amount of information the skin supplies you with, the RMX just minimizes the info and gives you what you have at your fingertips.

Thanks Si
I totally see what you are saying as its laid out so much better with the RMX skin. If i every do a gig without the RMX then obviously i can revert back to the normal skin.
Thanks again for your help dude, big help!!!
Happy mixing :-)

Hi all :)
First of all, sorry in advance for my english :)
Well i also noticed crackling in sound and spent the last four days trying to figure it out. My case is just about the same as everyone else reporting annoying random crackles and pops in sound. If i use the equalization knobs, it get worst. Tried both home and pro version of VDJ 7, using a laptop with i5 processor, Win 7 64, 4 GB RAM, crappy audio realtek on board, behringer UCA-202, ASIO drivers, all that. No midi controllers, can't afford one pffff
Spent hours analyzing latency, disabling devices, stopping services, nvidia powermizer, wireless LAN, bluetooth, all that again and again....
Until some hours ago, i just did this:
Looped a tune in a particularly noisy part, noticed that if i moved the hi knob a little around 50% back and forth the crackling got worse, then i just tweaked all 3 knobs from 50% to 49.99% (using a mapped key) and all the noises just went away. Period. It just stopped. Closed and open VDJ again, tested it again, and it worked again. Rebooted, more tests, and that was it, just as easy as that.
Then i tested this: wireless lan ON, Bluetooth ON, in fact everything on, and with the knobs at anything but 50%, no crackling whatsoever. perfect sound (attending that neither realtek or UCA-202 have good sound, but being just a bedroom DJ it's more than enough for me to play with), i could use the knobs anyway i want, no problems whatsoever.
Since i tested all this at my lunch hour, i still need to do some more testing, namely to mix 2 or 3 hours in a row trying to find any changes in sound quality. but anyway, i hope that this may help someone else around here; i will not be as cheeky as to propose the development team to check it out, but i am really curious to see if this works for someone else here. Hey, it takes less than 10 seconds to test :)
If i can help someone by providing more detailed info, just ask, i will be more than happy to help. Have a nice weekend :)
