I have two different Macbook Pro aluminum unibody laptops running Snow Leopard (one main and a backup computer). I tinkered with VDJ 7 for a day or two, loved it and bought it. Well, I should have tinkered more I suppose because I am having serious problems. First off, it randomly crashes on me. I click on the search box, get the spinning cd, then it just closes. I also have sound card issues. I have a couple of different USB sound cards (one is the Pioneer mixer DJM-5000). Sometimes I can run VDJ and it works, other times I get core audio errors. The sad part is: it does it on BOTH laptops and it seems to do it once, then not do it, then do it again... very troublesome. Now, I understand that it runs better on Windows than Mac. Please don't tell me to run it on bootcamp. I bought it because it's also "Mac software" and it should WORK. Has anyone had these problems? I emailed customer support to request a refund, but I'm sure they'll say "no" and if I can't get it to work, I'm out 300 bucks. HELP !!!

Does anyone have any ideas? I can't believe I threw $300 away on this buggy software. Maybe it works great in Windows, but I shouldn't have to run bootcamp on my Macbook. If you sell a Mac version of software, it should work on Mac! Grrrrrrr

I never had any major issues with eater my macbook or iMac so I can't really help but I had some problems with one of my self made skins crashing vdj.

UPDATE: I gave up on this for a couple of weeks, then tried to figure it out again. I think it's an audio config deal. I read some posts on here that when using the Pioneer DJM-5000 with VDJ that you choose "3-channel mixer" in the output config. Well, if I do that, the DJM doesn't show up. If I try "advanced" and attempt to assign the channels manually, it crashes. It appears I have found a way to make it work though. If I choose "external mixer" then it shows the DJM Mixer as a sound card. I can then choose "mono separated" "2 cards" or "4-out card". If I pick 4-out card, it assigns deck 1 to channels 1&2 (stereo) and deck 2 to channels 3&4. This seems to be holding up without any crashes so far. The only downside to this config is that the sampler is also on 3&4. I was really hoping to have sampler on Ch. 5&6 since the DJM-5000 supports three separate stereo channels. Has anyone gotten this to work this way? Thanks! I guess I can live without the sampler on it's own channel. At least I think I can finally use VDJ 7 on Mac (fingers crossed).
Chris, I emailed you. If you see this post, any thoughts? Thanks!

Additional Update: OK, I noticed something interesting. If I'm playing something on Deck 1, and I play something in the Sampler, it plays on channels 3&4 (normally assigned to deck 2) and if I'm playing deck 2, then the sampler moves over to channels 1&2. So, I can live with this config. If it doesn't crash, then I think I'm good to go! All in all, I like VDJ. I was just getting frustrated. I'm gonna run it like crazy now and see if it crashes.

I had a few little problems at first with VDJ on my iMac, played with the settings a bit and it runs flawlessly.
I hope this is the end to your problems; VDJ is a brilliant piece of software and it would be such a shame if it were to fail you.
It may be worth considering a bootcamp with a Windows product... I know it seems to defeat the object but it is no secret that VDJ runs more stable on Windows, in addition there is more support and a wider range of add-ons that are available for windows, the difference in the amount of effects across the two is staggering!

My only reason for looking at VDJ in the first place was because of the Mac version. I don't want to run Windows on my Mac. I appreciate that it's more stable on Windows, but if I can get it to run stable on Mac, I will be a happy camper.

The reason for the crash is most likely because the default audio setup for the DJM is only for 2 Stereo outputs.
Did you check the Audio/MIDI Setup utility and make sure that the DJM-5000 is setup to have more than 4 Mono (2 Stereo) Outputs?

any ideas on why this wants to crash? As I get closer to Spring, I need this to work... (I have Wedding Receptions coming up)...
Posté Sat 19 Mar 11 @ 3:51 pm
You are the only guy who has so hard problems with it... So no one can help in this special case...
the crash shows problems with 'handshake' audio driver and vdj... Have you installed the last driver of the pioneer?
Have you checked the settings how cstoll describe?
I had problems at the beginning with my audio 8 soundcard. but after a new install of OsX and the right driver is all working well.
I think you have to be start at zero.. and don't be worry about it.. It sounds with a problem of the pioneer driver.. Or your settings?!
Check the console messages, there is a lot to see..

I DID start fresh. I installed OS X fresh on TWO different Macbook Pro computers. I DO have the latest driver for the Pioneer mixer. So, if it's a config issue, how am I supposed to set it up? I've tried every configuration possible and it still crashes randomly upon starting VDJ on both laptops. I honestly can't believe I am the ONLY one having issues? I would love to get it working. Can anyone help me?
