1st DJ set I had was a set of Technic B1's and a Gemini mixer. The one with the wood all around it and the U/V meters behind the glass..

1st mixtape was done before I had turntables. I would record a song, pause, drop next song in on time. Then take that completed tape and make tracks by playing the tape and recording that tape with new songs over them.

1st gig...I used to practice Dj'ing with my speakers to my open window. (I know...Real Ghetto). I would scratch and back and forth and juggle. Everybody would say "City is up there doing the damn thing. Someone asked me to do a party in my building. I played the first song for like 15 minutes straight just scratching and trickin. Someone finally asked me "City, you gonna change the record?!? Thats when I realized I did not know how to mix yet. (Back to the lab)

Don't remember my 1st record. I always had a room full of records from my older brother.

I used to be a rapper and my DJ (Dj Russ One) was one of the best Dj's I had ever heard. I grew up with people like Grandmaster Flash and kool Herc so my man Russ was really nasty for me to be able to say that.

Best is a relative word when it comes to Dj'ing. All I know is that I am MOS DEF NOT THE BEST I HAVE EVER HEARD!!! But I ain't bad at all

Yeah... This ought to be a good thread.

- How Long you been in the game?
Since 1997, using very old DJing software (don't know if it exists anymore). Moved up to turntables in 2000 and became a VDJ owner back at version 3 iirc!

this would be a brandless mixer and two old turntables from my dad's stereo set. it had a knob insted of a slider to adjust the pitch and it wasn't that accurate.

rhouse, I will Certainly Check you out brother, because I truly appreciate quality music from back in the day! I may be a veteran, but you sir, you're a pioneer, so I salute you and those that came before me for paving the way for us! BIG UPS!!!

Jensen_sbp, I can only imagine what it was like to have your very 1st gig on New Years Eve, but I'm sure you did your thing!

s.waterreus, Hobby or Profession, obvious you have a true love for the game! I would love to see that turntable, lol!

farhanashraf, I meant mixtape, but you can even tell us your 1st mix as well. My first mix was RUN DMC's - Here we go vs Sucker MC's!

My wife laughs at me to this day, because I first became a DJ for the very reason I couldn't dance, so it was my way to get girls at parties. Then once I learned I could get paid to DJ, that was all she wrote! Aside from my career in sales, DJ-ing has help put more than food on my table! Yet it's my love for the game that has kept me here this long!

SALUTE!!!
