Hello! How are you doing? Yeah me too!

Lolz! Okay let's get serious...

I am a mobile DJ mostly, I have an external HDD to manage my mp3's. I am a ZipDJ member and download now from the DJ POOL.

Now I face a problem, usualy I would buy albums, now i have singles tracks or remixes.

How do you class or place your music to have a fast and efficient way to find your music.

If you can upload a screenshot of your VDJ screen folders ect! I will!

Well, finding your music should be easy... The search bar!

But as for arranging it, I make a new folder on my hard drive each month called 2011-02 for this month, then all new music goes in there.

In virtual dj I have a filter folder called "Feb 2011" that has the filter "filepath contains 2011-02" and so now every time I put music into that folder it's there in vdj ready to use. Along side that, each month I have a virtual folder with the same name "Feb 2011" that I put this month's big tracks in.

I've been using this system for 3 years and it works okay, but before that I just let itunes arrange everything into folders for each artist. For the rest of my collection I just use a lot of virtual folders in vdj, one for all the different genres and ones for 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, etc.

I've just updated the 80s one, so that inside the 80s virtual folder I have other virtual folders called "80s soul", "80s bands", "80s rock", etc. That's been great for putting sets together.

Every time I'm at a gig, I'll always add one or two tunes to a few folders- either ones that I just randomly think of, or ones that people request and that go down particularly well. After a year or two you get a really good list of stuff that you'd have no chance of remembering all by yourself!

Hope that helps!

Cool! Thanks for your informations!

I also use the virtual Folders and thought about havingh monthly folders, All songs and BIG hits.

I wonder, do you guys have all your songs BPM Scaned allready or you go on the fly? I do not have all of them scanned yet... way too many!

Thank You!

*Search Bar is a real gift from god when your out looking for a request I admit!!

I have my music organized by sets. I dont have a few folders and just search by typing. I have everything where i can just play all night without skiping a beat.
If you have your songs set up where you have to type to search alot, you will forget some names.

I have more than 80 folders but this is an example.

Hip Hop early sessions 1
Hip hop earl;y sessions 2
Hip hop early sessions 3
Reggae mellow 1
Reggae mellow 2
Reggae Hot hits 1
Reggae hot hits 2
Dance 90's 1
Dance 90's 2
Dance elctronic
Pop 1
Pop 2
Merengue slow 1
Merengue slow 2
Merengue mambo 1
Merengue mambo 2
Party favorites

Thsi is a good idea too!

Thank you for sharing!

The Filter Folders are exceptional! You can generate a folder for almost anything. If you're concerned about all the tunes you're downloading from zipDJ, there is a "recently added" folder that you can check for your latest releases.

I use alot of sub genres myself when I tag my files. For example, using "Eurodance' or "Europop" instead of just "Dance" or "90s". It's very hard to keep up on tags especially if you have a very large database. I use Media Monkey to do most of my batch tagging and will constantly update tags when I see an error during a gig.

As a mobile DJ I like to find the original release date of each file as well, so when someone asks me to "play something from the 50s", I can just hit the 50s filter folder and sift through the tracks.

It all starts with tagging your database in a way that works for you and then setting up filter folders in VDJ for quick access.

Hope that helps Simon.
