Need advice...

I have been playing around with a friends Xone 62 mixer with VDJ for some time now and wanted to know if its worth spending the money on a Xone if i'm not going to use CDJ's? Ideally, all i want is to use VDJ with a mixer but find that recording becomes an issue since the sound leaves the PC and gets modified on the mixer.

If all i want is to mix off of computer software, is there any point in getting a Xone 62 mixer or should i just stick with midi controllers?

You only need an external hardware DJ mixer if you wish to be able to output both left/right decks separately and manipulate them in hardware as you would with CD's. Otherwise, a MIDI controller such as Hercules DJ Console may be a better choice.

NOTE: To be able to use an external hardware DJ mixer, you will need a suitable 2 channel stereo DJ sound card such as Numark DJIO and either VirtualDJ Basic http://www.virtualdj.com/products/basic.html or the full Professional http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html (This is required if you also want to use MIDI controllers.)

To be able to recording when using an eexternal DJ mixer, please see http://www.virtualdj.com/homepage/jpboggis/blogs/4135/Recording_your_set_or_broadcasting_when_using_an_external_DJ_mixer.html
