Hey!

I´m new in Virtual Dj. I´m wondering how can I hear one deck in my earphones and the main deck in the speakers. I use an audio splitter. The problem is that I hear both songs on the speakers. I tried to change it in the configurations/sound setups/outputs, but it dosent work. Is it possible in my laptop to mix using only a audio splitter or do i need also a USB soundcard?

Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by a splitter, I am assuming this is standard laptop soundcard setup. You need either a usb sound card -you can either use a cheap single channel one which will manage low power head phones or there are usb soundcards that have a powered output for a set of DJ headphones as well as a decent quality audio output - if you are just a bedroom dj then the first will surfice, if you are going to be using system for pro work in the future then invest in a reasonalbe usb soundcard. The laptop audio out is not bad but not equal to a stereo line out in quality or response pattern.

Thanks for the answer. By the splitter i meant a small cable that you can connect into your audio input that has two cables coming out with two outputs. That is how i can connect speakers and headphones at the same time to my laptop. Guess that the splitter is not the solution for my problem and i have to buy the USB soundcard. Am i right?

Yeah that's easiest and best way. You can find a cheap one for like 25/30 bucks on eBay, I found one at my local pawn shop for 10 bucks.

You may have the wrong type of splitter cable. You need a splitter that splits a stereo output into separate mono left and right. You probably have a splitter that splits a single stereo output into two stereo outputs (E.g: To allow two headphones to be connected to the same music player.)

However, a splitter cable will only give you MONO sound.

Adding a simple external stereo USB sound card as advised above will give you a stereo output for your headphones, with your computer's own sound card being used for your master output in stereo.

Thanks for the advice
