Sujet: CBG misalign issues

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Every now and then I come across some tracks for which the CBG is not evenly spread and sync'ed across the entire track and also the BPMs are not calculated correctly. Unfortunately on my current 2 projects I have about 3 tracks on each list that have these issues in a very pronounced way.
I have followed the instructions for aligning the CBG using Anchors and I can see how using this method would work perfectly for tracks with minor CBG misalignment. With these troubled tracks using anchors I can align the CBG correctly at the begining of the track and it remains steady and solid until it reaches the usual 2 quiet and mellow phrases in the middle of the track where the beats fade away. It is during this time where VDJ seems to loose track of the beats positioning and by the time the beats return the CBG are already off (waaay off). If I continue setting second anchors on the 2nd half of the song, some of the previous parts of the song that were sync'ed now become misaligned. So what gives? What is the techical explanation for this?
Manual beatmatching has also proven hard to maintain for more than a couple of bars as the beats will tend to quickly get out of sync and my projects require me to keep both tracks live anywhere from 20 - 30 seconds before the fade occurs.

Is it possible that:
- I have bad rips
- VDJ has timing issues with music encoded in VBR (Variable Bit Rate)

Have you guys come accross these types of issues and how did you correct them? What would you people suggest?

- Thanks...

You could just assign a key on the keyboard where you could just manually tap out the beat on those parts.

Just an idea

If I do that the Phase does get align at that point in the track but it also gets misalign somewhere else in the track :(

I Have the same problem. It Just does not work Right. So who has the answer for this delima?

It works about 60% of the time. That is why you have to learn to beat match manually; don't depend on the sync button or you will certainly fail as a professional DJ. I don't know if it's VDJ technology that is off on some songs or if it is the songs.

- In short, the problem is a badly encoded track, re-rip the source into a High Quality Constant Rate MP3 file (FLAC or better if your don't care about space) if you have the original (or equivalent) CD. If your source was a downloaded MP3 (or an altered CD such as a retail mixed CD) then find another source.

I went carefully through my upcoming playlists and actually found several tracks with misalign CBG issues. Some of them were just plain CBG misalignment issues and easily fixed by hitting the BPM button on the downbeat. I assume that information is store in the VDJ database and be remembered from that point on.

The rest of the tracks were just badly encoded. The timing between the beats is just not consistent and that explains why VDJ cannot lock a correct CBG alignment. Of course, future improvements on the CBG algorithm could also help to make use of poorly encoded tracks.

- For the tracks that are encoded/recorded with just a bit of misaligment, setting up VDJs CBG alignment using the Anchor method does wonders. Some beats will be off, but if you anchor your lead-in and lead-out sections of the track, then at least the areas immediately surrounding those leads will be aligned and depending on how bad the encoded misalignment is you may have enough track time to finish your fades before hearing the offbeats.

- Some tracks have just bad timing encoded in them. Something seems to have gone wrong during the ripping and encoding process. I found 2 tracks like this in my last project. I was able to find such tracks on iTunes so I downloaded them and those aligned perfectly. However be aware that even iTunes may have badly encoded tracks once on a while.

I went further on and loaded both tracks on VDJ and when playing both side-by-side I could see how bad the timing was on the poor source.

**Please be aware that with some types of music it will always be hard to work out an aligment CBG because of the songs rhythm changes or even tempo variances and will not necessarily mean that is a bad encoded track.
