Was this a one time problem or an ongoing, repeatable crash?

If you try to do too many things at once, your comp might crash, as VDJ does use a lot of CPU (especially since it has to work with FLAC files :P ), so it might have just crashed because you were loading stuff onto the HD while using vdj

If it continues to crash, and you are not trying to load stuff onto the HD while djing, try turning on safe mode. VDJ used to randomly crash a few times every hour for me, and then when I turned on safe mode, the problem magically disappeared.

How exactly were you adding music ? Copying files from Explorer, while VDJ was running, or adding files to VDJ Library, using rightclick command?

ok thanks for the replies.

the first time it happened i was playing a song and went into recently added folder and did a scan. it started ok then froze although the song was still playing. i will see what happens today

When the software scans the new songs it is natural that the screen might freeze. The system is quite busy that time, and VirtualdJ gives priority to sound. I guess the normal is after a few seconds or minutes (depending on haw many and how large are those files) the system would go back to normal.
There is also a possibility that a bad file could cause a huge delay, even a permanent freeze. You have to isolate that file, by watching the progress bar of analyzing.

Bottom line, it is not recommended to scan files while playing, especially live.

I have also noticed

even after a scan there seems to be a yellow question mark next to the file. Could this be the problem?

Yes, maybe it's a bad file. Try to rescan just this one. In case it's still an unknown file, you have to remove it, otherwise this could cause several other problems during live, in case you load it by mistake.
