Last night my laptop just crashed. Talk about embarrassing, I'm playing my first live gig for a friends birthday party and all of the sudden the lappy freezes and crashes. Everyone dancing and then it was on to the iPod. I was overworking the poor little guy but now I'm kind of excited because I'm going to start looking for a new laptop for DJing.
I want to keep it under $600 (That'll rule out a Mac for now)
I own external hard drives with all my music on it (praise the lord for that)
I don't need anything but a good amount of ram and a quick processor
What do you advise...

At that price point there will have to be trade-offs somewhere in the hardware but here are a few options I found that might be worth consideration:

If you are only doing music these should be fine. They have decent processors ( both I-5 variants) and 6GB of ram with as 64bit operating system. The dell has a larger display but also will be a bit heavier and not fit on most DJ laptop stands as easily. Both have integrated graphics which could be an issue if you are looking at doing video mixing but at your price point I think they are 2 of the most capable options I could find in a quick search on the net.
