Sujet: BPM Scan

It seems when I am loading new music in VDJ for the first time it seems to see the BPM immediately when I load the song. If that is true, then what is the point of the SCAN BPM function when I right click on a folder?

Its probably reading that info from the ID3 tag, scan the tracks anyways.

Oh OK... so the BPM info is stored in the tag, correct?
 
Eric,

When you load a song into a deck it needs to be scanned by the software to identify it's BPM, length, CBG, bitrate and other tagged information.

It's always best practice to scan your entire library prior to loading the tracks in the decks as it will scan for other valuable information as well to help you find and identify songs that will mix well together and make folder sorting less difficult.

OK thanks AC. Where is all this information stored? Is it in the tag, or in some XML file that VDJ keeps track of? The reason I ask is that I often back up my music directory to another drive, and I wonder if all that info is going along with it...?
 
You have the "ID3 Tag" and then you have the "VDJ Database". You can write back the info that VDJ comes up with back to the ID3 tag, that way if you were to use a different program other then VDJ your BPM's & Key, etc. etc.. will be the same. Its all in the manual, http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/PDFManuals.html but to save you some time, just right-click on the file and then click on "File Info". Its from here you can write back all that info.

I'd still peep the VDJ Manual out though

Is it possible in some way to do that as a batch operation. For example say that I want to update the BPM field of the file tag for several files with info form the database without having to open the properties for one file at a time?
 
Simple answer "NO", were hoping for that in an upcoming update.
