Looks pretty bada$$, at least for Traktor. I still need jogwheels, personally.

It would be nice if they turned the Touchstrips 90 degrees and position them vertically.

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of these and figuring out how to map it to strictly control effects/loops/samples etc.....screw the control that is what my decks are for. I would rather have this than a basic pad controller just cause of all the extra buttons, knobs etc.

The Novation Dicer would be up your ally than Michael. You could map 60 different samples or effects to them. It's an affordable piece and it maps to VDJ easily. There's a demo video here that I made >>http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/145685/General_Discussion/Novation_Dicer_Video_Demo.html

The launchpad and twitch are along the same lines as the dicer. They've used the same formula on all minus the volume faders and strip pads of course.

Hope that gives you some insight.

Thanks AC for that explanation ... really cool stuff. :) Never thought about using the Dicer myself until you explained this ... always thought it was for Scratch DJ's .... or at least I associated it with scratch DJs

The answer is on the Twitch website if you bother to look ;)

Quote :
TWITCH comes with Serato's powerful ITCH DJ software, but it is also a standard MIDI controller and audio interface that works with all major DJ software including Traktor and Ableton Live.

...not that it was necessary, I could have told you the same thing just based on the fact that it's a standard MIDI-controller.

@AuralCandy.Net - To whom is your comment referring to? I don't understand the context of your statement.

I don't think I could have been any more clear than that.

@AuralCandy.net - Normally I don't comment on smug sounding comments ... however I want to clarify for future readers to this thread that I asked the question "would" you map this to Virtual DJ ... not "could" you. I have read the Novation Twitch website and I understand what it is and what it is capable of.

I simply want to create "positive" and informative dialog for Virtual DJ users to comment on whether they would use this new midi controller in their setups.

In the future, please understand the context of statements and offer constructive dialog before replying . Thanks.

Ladies & Gentlemen, LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLet's get ready to Rummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmble. In the blue corner............................You guys are funny. I can't speak for either of you, but maybe there is a little misunderstanding going on here. If not, In the red corner.............

@"A Man And His Music" - LOL! You are sooo funny. I'm was not tryin' to start a fight .... :)

Ok I've watched the demo video and the only thing I did not like about was the way you scroll through tracks.........you had to keep swiping. I think it would be better if I could just swipe once and it would just keep goin till I put my finger back on it. Either way it seems cool but I'm just not feeling the touch strip thingy, gonna have to do better then that if you wanna replace the jog wheels we've all come to know and love, lol!!

Huey

@beatbreaker1 ---- What do you think would have been a better replacement for jogwheels (instead of the Twitch's touchstrips)?

And hello ... we haven't "conversed" online for a while :)

well....hope fully everyone will be fine...
actually there is an issue towards given link that
is not working properly....if someone could help me...
coz I'm getting irritated

@Conspired, how's it goin bro, its been a minute since I've seen you aswell. Hope all is good! Well I don't thing the jogs could ever be replaced from a hip hop djs point of view. But then I haven't tried it out either, lol! But like that other cat said this would be an awesome controller just for effects and such.

Novation Twitch looks amazing to me.

Jog-wheels are useful to me for pitch-bending. I've never used jog-wheels for scratching. I like long blends; jog-wheels, long pitch faders and rotary channel faders are perfectly suited for this.

But, if I could still bend the pitch smoothly with the touch-strip, I would definitely consider the Twitch. Oh, who am I kidding. I've been eyeballing the Novation Twitch now for about two weeks. From what I've read about touch-strip technology (apart from DJ technology) and youtube videos I've seen it is very accurate and responsive. Any lag will be from the PC, software or MIDI USB.

I've been reading up on the Twitch and watched all the associated videos. But what I find interesting are the comments by younger "Controllerist" DJs concerning the Twitch and the lack of jog-wheels. The attitude is and I quote "fuck beatmatch that is old school bullshit so is scratching" [sic]. You can read the comments here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVHfgG_8T68

I don't agree with the comment, but I do agree with his comments later on. They feel that beat-matching and scratching are inferior skills and not really essential to this new performance style akin to beat juggling DJing called "Controllerism". He goes on to say that it's all about "creativity and manipulation of the music".

DJ'ing has almost come full circle from about 35 years ago. Looks like it's going back to it's roots: Being more about the "performance", outdoing other DJs by layering samples, acapellas and effects, aggressively.

I'm not ready to abandon beat-matching and long blends (especially when the event and music genre demand it), but going crazy with one shot trigger cue points and samples looks like a lot of fun!.....

I for one, don't want to get left behind.

Chris, it's certainly worth checking out Ean Goldens (DJ TechTools) video's on Youtube, if you haven't already.
