There were 5 separate occasions last night where 5 separate customers showed up at my booth door in the club and said "When are you gonna play something good?" This was a very baffling question to me as there was a full dance floor and some top 40 playing at the time. I responded with "What do you consider good? Every song is good to somebody." I get responses like "I don't know" and "Not this".

I wasn't overly concerned considering the situation, but was completely confused on these peoples expectations of me. Did they want me to be a mind reader too? I had to laugh as it was evident that the rest of the club was having a great time and you can't keep them all happy.

Have you ever been asked this? What do you say?

I say "This is good", as I dance away.
 
oh this is a easy one, lol!

"Go to the person who hired me and ask them to fire me and hire you, then you can play what you like; until then, I'll continue to play what the other 99.9% are jamming too on the dance floor! Now be gone you wannabe and let me do my damn job! You don't see me saying would you like to supersize it, like you do!

I wish I could bring myself to get in their faces, but I have trained myself to treat everybody with respect regardless of how they treat me because they are all potential clients. That has been my platform for the last 5 years and I've been increasingly successful because of it.

There was a complete bitch that I had to deal with on Friday night who wanted a track that was way off pace as I was playing the last song of the night at the time anyway. I politely told her that I was done for the night and she called me every name in the book. I kept my composure and was pleasant to her as she continued to rip me a new one. She came back Saturday night and apologized to me.

Sometimes people say things or act stupid when the booze is flowing, or maybe they had a bad day and need to blow off on someone. I attribute "Play something good" to booze and stupidity.

well the top 40 is really bad right now so its probably not your fault.

always on the weekends,

and after the last decade i am still amazed that even people who have been coming out to the club for over 5-10 years STILL ask that.

when the girls ask - they mean either something thats not country like rap or hip-hip, or something that is seriously slow

when they guys ask - same thing depending on what they're wearing.

apparently most of them missed the big sign on the front of the building..
 
Oh man oh man, there's not a DJ anywhere on the planet that hasn't heard that same crap :D

DJ: <plays_anything>
Customer: "Could you play something else?"
DJ: "Like what?"
Customer: "I dunno, something good"
DJ: "I repeat, like what?"
Customer: "Something you can dance to"

It doesn't matter what you're playing, you're guaranteed to hear those same lines every time no matter what you play. The trick is to learn that you'll never satisfy everybody no matter how hard you try.
 
I always hear it at least once a weekend. 5 times from 5 separate people got me to finally post it in the forum (a few too many bottle's of stupid perhaps?) I wonder what the order at McDonalds?
 
Just ask them...

'How would you like it if i came to your place of work and told you to lick that envelope properly?!?!??'

At the end of the day, people pay us to make people dance. Don't get me wrong...that's not all that spinning is about but of course it's the largest part of the job. If people are dancing, then you're doing something right. This is the norm in our job. It's the 'office politics' of the DJ in my opinion. And just like being in an office...what a crock!

I usually just smile to them and point my eyes (so that they can follow my view) on the packed dance-floor.

There's no need to spoil my night for guys/gals like these!
 
its like when i have salsa only night that some people ask for bachata or merengue,the club owners advertise as salsa only night and they never tell me to play anything else but salsa,many people fill up the place to dance salsa all night but always is somebody that dont understand or get what salsa only night means.
 
this is how stupid people can be.. the club had oraganised an 80's fancy dress theme nite and it was some night place was packed everyone up singing and dancing on tables and everything cracking nite......... everyone having a good time.. i was banging out the 80's hits one after another......

now of coarse i do reguests no problem i have to i think it makes the night special for that group of people if the hear there Favourite song on.
well half through the nite this yoke my guess is she was something off the discovery channel came up to me and said this WILL YOU STOP PLAYING ALL THE OLD SHIT AND PLAY SOMETHING NEW LIKE LADY GAGA............
i said i cant its an 80s themed nite...
she came up to me 4 times in total now she did not pay any attention to everyone in fancy dress or anything finaly i took one of the advertisting posters of the wall and give it to her and she went ohhhhhh is that why people are dressed up............




as we say here in ireland there is always ONE.... i have giving up on the human race after that.... you cant keep everyone happy and what i have figured out is these people that say play something good havent a clue anyways..

oh you know.. that one song... lol

thats what I usually get along with something I can dance to. I just ignore them and concentrate on the happy people having a good time
 
I dont know if that is worse or the idiots that come up and try to sing a verse and ask if I have that song.......
 
Haaha yea and they go oh you know the song by Eh eh eh and they start to sing a bit of it and then they go oh i cant sing it but you know the one im on about.... I reply oh yea i remember that song nope i dont have it ha ha..
