Hey all, wondering if someone can help me with this... I have recently transferred all my songs to a portable hard drive because my laptop memory was pretty close to full and slowing my computer. On the laptop I have two hard drives... C: and D: both of which virtual dj recognises.
When I plug in the portable hard drive it says it is drive G: probably because that's the USB port I use for it.
Now I'm getting error msg's on all the songs I have moved. I realise this is because I've moved them, but in Browser options in Config, it wont recognise that I have an external hard drive, so I cant select this as the default memory.
Does anyone know a way I can make this set up work, so I can keep practising spinning, without overloading my computer?
Thanks heaps in advance!
Oh... I can access the songs if I go through my computer in the browser, which allows me to play them without the error, but all the playlist's I have made no longer work... if you know what I mean. Can I get the playlist's back?

Try adding the drive to your search database (It won't have a database until you do that.) Right-click on it in the VirtualDJ browser and choose Add to search DB
If it does not pick up the information, then you would need to manually copy your VirtualDJ Database v6.xml from My Documents\VitualDJ to the root of the external drive and rename it VirtualDJ Local Database v6.xml (You may not see the .xml extension depending on your Windows folder options settings.)
Then open the database in a text editor such as Notepad and replace the old paths to the songs with the new correct paths, e.g: If they were in C:\Music previously and are now in G:\Music, search and replace C:\Music\ with G:\Music
NOTE: For this to work, your music must be in EXACTLY the same folder structure as it was before with the same file names.

Thanks, it says it did add to the database, and now I can get G: drive in the browser menu in Config. But when I click on G: and click okay, it automatically changes back to C: drive even though there are no songs left on it. Does this mean I have to manually copy your VirtualDJ Database v6.xml from My Documents\VitualDJ to the root of the external drive and rename it VirtualDJ Local Database v6.xml, like you said before? And when I open the database in Notepad to replace the old paths with the new ones, do I have to do this for each song? Sorry I'm not the most computer literate person around :(
Thanks for your help!

Would it be easier to create playlist's on the portable hard drive and access that folder via the browser? Or would it be beneficial if I uninstalled Virtual DJ and re-installed it with the songs on the portable hard drive instead of C: drive?
Only problem is I'd like Virtual DJ's interface to work as it did with all the songs on the computer's hard drive... These ways probably wont allow that...
Hmmm....

Re-Read carefully what Support Staff said and follow those instructions and it should work but the key is the folder structure on your external hard drive has to match the folder structure of the internal hard drive.
In notepad you can use the function Edit/Replace/Replace What with Replace With to easily convert C:\Music with G:\Music.

The folder structure should already match, as i cut it from C: and pasted it into G: nothing should be different appart from the actual hard drive. I'll mess around with it in the morning and make sure all folders are the same...but thanks for your help Support Staff and jayMSV! Even though its simple to you, it helps others (me) a lot so I wont stuff it up again next time I move folders hopefully!

Thank you, this worked great. I really appreciate it.. I found out that I can also change my entire History to the external drive using the same process.

Do you mean the iTunes folder does not appear for the external drive?
If so, the iTunes folder in VirtualDJ will only appear and work correctly if your iTunes library is in the default location (See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1660 )
iTunes libraries in custom locations and/or on external drives are not fully supported at this time. You can try changing the location by right-clicking on the iTunes folder and choosing this option. Multiple profiles are also not supported.
NOTE: If you library is in a custom location or external drive, you can still access the music in it by using the VirtualDJ browser to browse to the drive/folder where the music is located.
Make sure that you have added the music to your search database by browsing to the folder(s) where it is located, right-click (CMD+Click) on the folder and choose Add to search DB.

no what i mean is that i can see my external hard drive on my desktop, if i open it i can play the music...but when i start vdj i don't see my external hard drive at all, i has desktop folder but when i open it there is another folder that i have also music, but not my external, i went to options and try to add it manually but the browse bottom only give me a "root" option, its weird i used to connect my old hard drive and it was already on vdj as a folder but now there is nowhere to be found.

chat with technical support got it....this was so dumb on my end...all i have to do was to add the "Volume" tab on my screen i had it without a checkmark so i wasn't able to read it...it's funny cause Mac wont have "my computer" and the external hard drive will be under "Volume"
thanks again staff!!

I move my music to a different external hard drive. Same port yet the drive is now H:\ instead of the old hard drive G:\. How can I get my playlist to recognize the new location of the songs?

If your file structure is exactly the same as before and just the drive letter hast changed, you could change it back if you want.

If you copy the DB over you will have all your information; cue points, etc.
