Hi, I've been using another dj software but it doesn't allow an automix without overlap so I've been testing VDJ in it's free, home version to see if it fits my purpose before purchase.
I run from my laptop, through a USB 4.1 soundcard, through a ProSound mixer desk, to a seperate amp.
Running through VDJ the sound is 'muffled' and seems to clip some of the volume. It also seems to be very bass biased.
I first bypassed the EQ on the mixer desk and checked the setting on the soundcard software. I tried with and without the virtual DSP switched on. All without improvement.
Running through my existing sotware and from a standalone CD player into the desk the sound seems ok so guess the core system is fine.
Am I missing something?

Additional information:
I've downloaded the DPC Latency Checker tool and this shows no more than 1000 (yellow) with my normal stuff running plus the external sound card and VDJ playing a track.

It's plug n play in the laptop so no config required
As far as VDJ is concerned, with the home version there is no config that sticks for more than a short while. At least that's what the message says when I attempt to change it from primary sound card. And I guess my usb card is acting as the primary seeing as the sound is coming out via it?

It seems that you are not able to use an external sound-card. These are some of the limits to the home edition. Use the laptop sound card to get a sample of what the software sounds like. The better the sound-card, the better the sound. I don't know that sound-card, but what does that price translate to in dollars?

Bit of a rock and a hard place then.

It looks like I'm going to have to buy the Pro Basic version at $99 to test it out properly?

No, you don't have to buy the software just to try it out. You can enable the trial of the full version.
Ideally though, you'll need a professional multi channel ASIO sound card rather than a budget consumer model from Maplins.
This will give you much higher quality, lower latency and multiple outputs, so you connect each 'deck' in VDJ to a separate channel of your mixer. The ubiquitous MAYA 44 USB for example...

Right. Tested with the available home version limited 10 minute audio config to the USB digital 4 channel output and - hey presto! Sound as smooth as silk (well enough for what I need anyway).
So the next question is, do I need to buy Pro Basic or will the Broadcaster version allow audio config? I really don't need all the other bells and whistles that the Pro Basic gives me. However I may upgrade to full Pro some time in the future as I like the ability to manage video output to my digital projector - would be easier than trying to cue a separate DVD player - but that's for future expansion.
