Sujet: Designing a Dj controller

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Alright I have an idea on a top of the line Dj controller. Anyone here know anyone at the top companies I can pitch it to? I have to admit there were a few times in my life where I have thought of something and said "naw that's stupid, no one would buy that" and later on a see a version of it on the market!

As the ever happened to anyone else?

stage one - get a loan, go over to china find a manufacturer to make your controller
stage two -
stage three - Profit

haha I love South Park... the problem with this is you need to outlay a lot of cash, and watch over the manufacturing process so you don't get dodgy components instead of quality ones, then worry about marketing and distribution which is stage two lol. What happens nowadays with the OEM Companies is the chinese design a product but make features and components optional.

If you aren't prepared to do that you could maybe come up with an idea, make a prototype and patent the design, Or if you don't want any credit or remuneration you could just send an email to the big boys (pioneer, numark, denon, vestax, stanton) with your ideas for them to consider.

I have designed quite a few products over the years (most of which I am listed as the inventor on the patents), and depending on who I wish to approach I go about it in different ways.

If I already have a working relationship with a company that I think will be interested, I simply speak to my contact within that company. If I wish to approach a company that I haven't dealt with before, I normally contact them and either speak to the person or get the contact details for the person responisble, then start a dialogue with them. Most new ideas take between 12 and 24 months to formalise, at least in my experience.

You can send your idea "unsolicited", but most companies will not accept unsolicited ideas.

With regards to protecting your idea, a patent is the only cast iron (well kinda) method, but even those ideas that I have come up with that now have patents in force, I always send myself a copy of the communication (hard copy, in an envelope, signed for) that I keep unopened - you'll be amazed at how much credence a judge will put in an unopened, postmarked letter!
