[quotesland sjoa, I just counted those songs, and think I got 62, and you said this is the first page. How long is this function? At 3 min a song x 62= a little over 3 hours. If a client gives me more music than the contracted hours, I am very honest with them. I let them know that they will not hear all of this music in the allotted time. I give them the opportunity to revise the list or the hours. This way the client is not surprised at the function. [quote]
That was just the first page it was sent to me in a pdf format so I couldn't get it to copy and paste right. So I had to write the list out I have another page and half. I know that i'm not going to find every song on grove shark thats common sense but I figured that some of the oldies I wouldn't have a problem. I'm curious with it being a world wide software that theirs not that much hawaiian/ island style music. like one of the guys said before who knows i might like it which i'll probably just sign up only on my gig dates since this is my cherry popper gig of actually getting paid for the event its for 7 hrs with a 30 min break for the hula dancers to preform, so well see what happens I had enough to make it a 10hr list but if I need to tap in to a different genre I will it will also help with the request songs to. Since my focus is mainly Hip hop/ R&B/ Reggae
Thanks for all the input

I used the service for a month and can comment as follows:
1 - A good few of the tracks I searched for did not have "official" Grooveshark versions but conributed copies. Not all are good quality or even complete tracks. If there is a Grooveshark one there it will be good. It's pot luck to be honest but some of the copies on there sound truly horrible and no use for a gig. It's a handy "get me out of the shit" tool but should never be considered as the backbone of your gigs.
2 - The track identification / tagging that is presented in the VDJ browser is abysmal. You don't know the version you are getting or the length most of the time.
3 - It's not very UK centric, a lot of UK specific artists don't appear at all, however being US based I guess you'll be OK
That was several months ago but things may have improved since then.
As others have said, give it a go for the price of a McDonalds and if you don't like it just cancel before the month is out. Simple as that!

Island sjoa, You have your work cut out for you. When is the gig? Where do you live? Will you have Internet access that day? Do you have any DJ friends, that can help you out with some of the music?

The gig is this Saturday June 4th. It's not far from my place here in Vegas. No I don't have any real Dj friends. I know of two but they seam like they give me i don't want to help a noobie out atattuid!! but that's understandable. Yes the client said that I will be able to hook up to the wifi their.

DJs have big egos, including me. I just don't let mine get in my way, and I am not threatened by other DJs. It is tricky to approach a DJ while he or she is working. Some gigs require all of our attention. I do not want to talk to you if I am doing a wedding. In the club, do not approach me while I have a headphone to my ear. I will turn into Satan. If you just stand and observe, we will ask if we can help you. Say, "I was just checking out your setup, and admiring your skills". Bam, you're in. We like to show off, and if you act like you want to learn, we will help you. Are you having any luck with that play list?

Naw, but I have my own library of island music. I just hope the client don't mind. It's a dubble party that hear now it's the clients b-day that's a luau theme. I know the playlist had a lot more oldies than island music but it is what it is. Ya the guys I know that Dj that's all I do when I hang out with them is just watch how they are performing and then I go home and practice it myself. The only thing that I'm still trying to learn to help me is all the mapping tips and tricks!!! Thanks for the info / help.

So for those of you that were trying to help me prep for my gig last saturday the 4th the outcome was great. So I got most of the music from the premium membership. The only thing is after I set up I thought I did everything right when I started to load the songs it gave me an error on the decks. I downloaded the music and i downloaded the cache but when I started to load the music it wouldn't play the music. other than that i pulled it off to the point were I got an extra hundred dollar tip. the great thing about it is that it was my first paying gig so I was stoked that the client was happy.
Two questions tho: can you tell me what I did wrong with the songs that I downloaded from netsearch?
and 2nd I want to mapp the source button on deck 1 to hook up an RCA input to a 35mm headphone jack so all have to do is just plug in the jack into an ipod and be able to play the music from their ipod. Reason for this is i'm semi partnered with a hula dance company so when they have a show and i'm their all I need to do is just plug their ipod in with the music to play other than that i have no use for the source button at this time other than using it a shortcut key.
thanks in advance..

Did you use the same computer that you downloaded the cache to? In other words, if you were at home and downloaded the songs to your desktop, that's where they are, on the desktop. I am told that you can copy the cache to another drive, but you still have to re-authorize them every 30 days.
The source button on the RMX will switch between the usb input and the analog input.

Yes it was on the laptop that I use just for my gigs I don't know if it matters or helps it's a Mac book that I use. So I am able to use the RCA connections to map it to play the music from the headphone jack from the iPod. Now when I go to config do I set it up as a timecode source or is their other type of config that I need to select such as a mixer input in the dropsown menu?

Oops, you just lost me. I know nothing about MACs. Sorry I can't help you, but I'm sure others will be able to.
