Sujet: Record Companies & Promo CD's

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Hi everyone! I heard that if you are a DJ and you play in well known places or in international radios you can get access to some Record Companies or DJ Pools to send you FREE Promo CD's and music, but you have to apply to this places and you need to qualify.

I searched all over the internet but haven't found any of this places where you are supposed to apply, to see if they will or not send you free music for you to promote.

Does anyone know any of this?

I report to the Billboard Club Chart as I am the reporter for the New Orleans market. I know the chart manager might be looking for new reporters (in areas where there is not a reporter). One minimum qualification, I believe, is spinning at least 2 nights every weekend.

Yes, that is true. However, it's not about how often and where you spin, it's about how well-known the record labels deems you to be. This is obviously completely subjective and arbitrary.

I'm personally on several record label's promo list. Some were responses to my request, some were invites from record label's behalf. Many labels have possibility to apply on their web pages, so I guess you just haven't done a good detective work ;)

Can you tell me if you know any that would let me apply? Thank you for your answers!

Depends what you're asking really. There's nothing stopping you from applying to each and every promo pool you can find, but if you're asking which ones will approve you...I have no idea, since I don't know anything about you :)

If you're asking which record labels have promo lists, all I can say is...JFGI ;)

I think your best bet is to look into physical record pools and pay your dues! Im sure most of us did not start out with everything being free. I k ow I didn't. I have been and still am a proud member of Dixie Dance Kings out of Atlanta. Www.dancekings.com. being a part of a physical pool is probably one of the safest and legit way to go right now.

When I was in radio as a pd it took a while before the labels put me on their promo lists. I had to work the phones and fill out applications and still call to follow up on the application! If you want on promotion lists you are going to have to put in the work! You still MAY not be added but if so it is rewarding. Labels look for feedback as well.

With record pools you will still have to provide feedback and charts on a regular basis.

Good luck! Any questions feel free to ask but I just gave a lot of pointers so the rest is up to your and your research.
