At last night's show, three times I had to shut down and restart VDJ to to distorted noisy output. This was accompanied by a slower and varying pitch of the playing track. The CPU monitor was showing normal low level. I'm not sure, but it may have been trigurred after hitting the SYNC button on the Denon.
I am using a SONY VAIO with i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M video card, Windows 7 64 bit (aero OFF), 4GB RAM, with the Denon MC6000, ASIO driver version 2.2.
I have gone through thye entire hardware troublehooting checklist already.
What would be my next step in troubleshooting this?

If you're using the Denon Asio drivers then that might explain it.
After 6 months of working with the MC6000 and doing various tests I can confidently say the Denon Asio drivers are rubbish. It's been almost impossible to set an optimum latency on either my Macbook Pro or Acer Iconia which are both pretty good systems. There was an optimization in VDJ 6.03 (I think) to help but I still had problems getting the Asio drivers to stop crackling and degrading as the gig went on. I like you have experienced a degradation in sound quality during gigs and required to shutdown and restart.
I am now using the WDM drivers (external mixer, 4.1 output) with the performances latency set at 11ms and it's been flawless. The only advantage of Asio is if you require extremely low latencies for scratching etc. but for normal use WDM is perfectly acceptable.
There have been quite a few posts about this on the Denon forums but the fanboys running that forum won't accept there genuinely is an issue with the Denon drivers and as usual blame the computers instead.
Apart from that, great controller though!

Auto gain is set to auto.
Thanks for your input Kradcliffe - I looked under CONFIG > SOUND SETUP > SOUNDCARD and the only option I have is Denon ASIO Driver.
How do I get the WDM 4.1 drivers to show?

Just an update on this issue... I ditched the ASIO drivers this past weekend and all worked fine!

Interesting,
I'm having a lot of trouble with the Citronic MP-X10 unit, same thing distortion. Only happens on one laptop however its speaker destroying stuff!
Wonder if its the native sound setup?

According to reports of german users you HAVE TO use 2ms latency our your sound will start crashing.
I didn't have a mc6000 myself, so I couldn't test it. But it seems to work for the others.
