So I have had this beast of a laptop for a couple of years and although its powerful I hate the size of it and in particular the enormous house brick sized powerpack. I'm in the UK so 230v supply.
Anyway I haven't played out all that much with it but when I do I notice that the audio hum that it puts into the soundsystem is ridiculous. It isn't there when I remove the powercable and run on battery but of course the battery only lasts for about 10 mins no good for a dj set.
It's ok for home but I have a few gigs coming up on big systems and I'm scared of the noise that this thing generates.
I'm using a hercules mk2 controller and have started to use a fast Track pro soundcard to improve general sound quality but still have this audio hum from the powerpack.
Has anybody got any tips or solutions to this problem? Surely someone must have a solution to this.

I tried one a while back but it didn't seem to do much good. I'm not sure I used it correctly though. It was something like this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/ground-loop-isolator-33172?c=froogle&u=33172&t=module
Where would you put it in the system? Would it be fitted to the audio cables running out of the hercules/soundcard before they go to the amp/mixer/soundsystem?

If you 'lift' the ground, it will get rid of the hum. For US AC plugs, there is an adapter that will change a 3 ping AC plug to a 2 pin AC plug. I'm sure there is something similar for your plugs. Another technique I have sometimes used is to wrap the ground pin in a thin layer of electrical tape.
Yes, this is technically unsafe, especially when your AC is 220 volts, but use common sense (i.e., don't lay your brick in a puddle of water, or if you must, don't stand in that puddle barefoot ;)
