Sujet: Hercules 4-mx or AA VMS4

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I just sold my RMX because I want to upgrade to touch sensitive jogs (scratching purposes). I'm looking at the 4-mx or the VMS4. Having owned a Hercules before I know they are reliable but haven't found many videos of them being tested with scratching. While the VMS4 looks great, I've been hearing a few negative reports about them. Anyone with feedback on these controllers, please share it with me. I plan on keeping this controller for a while so I want the best for my price range (max $400) and purpose. Looking forward for comments.

If your looking for a compact unit with abilities, then the hercules DJ Console 4-Mx is the one to choose, but you need to use it as a main soundcard for both master and headphones...

If your using it as a two souncard setup, 1 Card for Master and the Hercules DJ Console 4-Mx for headphones, then there are some issues, it doesn't work using the default windows media drivers. I am expericing this problem with the 4-Mx soundcard unit..

I am corresponding with Hercules tech support concerning this issue and will post the results if they find a solution....

Good Luck

Joey....

Thanks Joey. Anymore comments?

Joey, Hercules uses ch 3,4 fot headphones by default. If you choose 2 sound cards VDJ will pick up the first 2 ch of Hercules and it will not work. You need to create an Advanced Sound setup and have a line as ..Headphones ..Hercules . ..outs 3,4, plus of course a line for your master.

As for the units above, you re trying to compare 2 different devices. The VMS4 has a real 4 ch real audio hardware mixer.

I agree DjDad, they are 2 different units with the VMS4 having additional functionality but what I really want is the experiences of those who have used these units. Whereas the VMS4 has more features and looks the obvious choice, I have been hearing one or two negatives about the performance. I am awed by what the VMS4 promises but right now I'm leaning towards playing it safe and buy the 4-MX. Also please bear in mind that i"m really concerned about scratch performance. I'm purchasing on Monday and really want to make the best choice. Probably there might also be other good options.

Hi djdad

That is exactly the way I set it up at first, in the advance soundcard dialog and it did not work at all using "WMD" as the default driver, I've been asking for help with this.... http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/152342/General_Discussion/Need_some_help_On_a_Hercules_Controller.html

Does Not Work, No Headphone signal to the 4-Mx Console.

AA products aren't the best, Hercules have been for the most part very well thought of.

Love and won't get rid of my RMX (now backup and possible controller for decks 3&4). Tried the VMS4 - returned it. The original batch were not very good quailty. Build was OK, but the touch sensitive jogs were prone to making the unit reset itself. Plus the quality of the sound card wasn't that great.

Got the refund on that and saved up for the Denon MC6000 and haven't regretted it. This unit is absolute quality. The sound is crisp and clear and the build quality, touch, feel and usability is spot on. I use it on my radio show twice a week. To hear the quality listen to any of my recent pods at http://soundchaser.podomatic.com.

To be honest, I wouldn't have sold the RMX until you'd canvased the community. Now your stuck with no controller and fixed budget with no way of bringing extra income to top it up ;-)

Cheers,

Roy

I'd sell my mother sooner than by a VMS4 lol

I will never stop being amused by these questions. I own both units, and prefer the 4MX over the VMS4. As with all things, it boils down to personal preference...

[Moderated: Sorry, selling is not permitted on the VirtualDJ forums.]

@TearEmUp are you using your 4-Mx in a two card configuration, Like in my post?....I'm having issues with mine, If not maybe you can help me by setting yours with a two card config using the 4-Mx as haedphone only Channels 3&4, using "WMD" audio made in the Herc control panel....I like to know if it works for you or not if you can..

Thank you,

Joey...

The VMS4 suffers from poor build quality and should be avoided. Just check the AA support forum. Loads of unhappy customers.

My question to the 4mx owners is: If you try to do four decks how's the volume control work? it's only got 2 faders. I've owned my VMS4 since january and yeah, I've had my share of issues, but I've resolved them and as a result I feel that I know that controller very well, there have been times where I hate the thing, but I've also had problems with my RMX, so yeah, it's preference and nothings perfect.

There are toggles to switch between A and D or B and C decks, Works pretty well.

The difference is, it's a compact controller, you don't need all that room as with the VMS4, you'll have to toggle too the 3rd & 4th deck you need to control, but all the options are there in a nicely layed out solidely built unit, for the long haul controller, and as far as the sound quality, its good....

Good Luck,

Joey....

From a former VMS4 owner, Stay away from the VMS4.
I have never owned a 4mx but I did own a Hercules MK2, MK4 and RMX and I would rather use a Hercules product than a VMS4 any day of the week. If the 4mx is built on the solid RMX foundation then 4mx all the way. I like the fact that the VMS4 is an actual analog mixer but I think they missed the mark with a few small annoying issues that I can't get over, I'm still hoping they resolve these but the last time I checked the VMS4 forums it was still the same old design.

Thanks guys, your comments have been very helpful. 4-MX it is!

so did anyone figure this out yett? i have a gig soon and this isn't cool. i need my headphones to work so i can get comfortable with this controller

The only way the headphones will work is through the ASIO driver in the Herc. control pannel, but will not work using WMD as of today....

Good Luck,

Joey...
