I have version 7 of VDJ and an MPD 18 that I want to use along with it to trigger samples/effects. I've searched the internet to find a way to use the two together and found nothing basically. I've searched through the config window a bunch of times but couldn't find anything relating to recognizing my MPD18. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge or help they could share on which route I should take to get these two working together.

Choose "Simple MIDI mapper" from the device menu in "Config --> Mappers".

one question at a time please mate, this is a very small, very helpful forum...
In answer to your question, you can have up to 16 undefined midi devices connected and working with vdj with simple midi as AurelCandy describes, unlimited if you have definition files for the devices and it doesn't matter if you have 2 or more of the same device as there are ways to assign them to different channels.
The problem you have though is that midi devices will only be useable in the full pro version, so you need to upgrade your LE version for that ability and more..
