Hey everyone, I need some help.
I have a Hercules RMX and 2 Mackie SRM450v2.
The speakers only have XLR inputs and the RMX only has RCA and 6.35mm outputs.
I managed to connect the two when using an external mixer with XLR ouputs (American Audio QD5)in between, but then I have to use the external mixer for headphones and crossfading. I would be sweet just to concentrate on the RMX. (Which is actually my problem here).
If i set up VDJ with (Master/Channel 1&2, Headphones/Channel3&4) I only get sound from one of the speakers. (I guess since there is just a mono channel coming from channel 1 and 2?)

Would this adapter do to skip the external mixer and plug the speakers directly into the RMX?
Tried to google this and read forums everywhere, and everyone seems to have different opinions...
Any advice would be helpful!
Thanks!

That adapter should work. You can also buy cables with XLR at one
end and RCA (or 1/4 ")at the other end.

Hi mate
I would suggest you avoid using the adaptor. The Jack outs on the RMX are balanced TRS (Tip,Ring,Sleeve). To take advandage of the higher noise rejection performance of balanced line use a cable like this.

Thanks for the help guys! I really appreciate it!
@Dazmax: according to the RMX manual, the 1/4 outputs are unbalanced. So from the start this was really my concern.
Does it matter if you use an adaptor, (or your cable), from the unbalanced output on the RMX straight into the balanced inputs on my speakers?

Hi mate
Can you direct me to the page in the manual where it sais the 1/4 inch jack outs are unbalanced? The manual I have refers to them as +4dbu mono. This is a standard TRS balanced out as far as I am aware.
Happy to be proved wrong tho and if this is the case I would suggest the use of a dual channel transformer isolated Direct Inject box rather than an addaptor. That way you can use short patch leads to connect the RMX to the DI box and then run balanced lines out to your speakers.
Perhaps a MOD or other member with more info on the RMX can help out here.
Cheers

I was under the impression the 1/4 inch outputs on the RMX are unbalanced as well. Something like this would allow for the connection your looking for, along with giving you more control over the sound quality.

@Dazmax: In my manual on page 7, section 4.2 (The connectors) "Pro gear 1/4 jack output connectors 1-2 (4dbu) unbalanced".
And thanks again, I tried borrowing a DI box and it worked fine! Guess I'll buy one soon.
@Tearemup: Thanks for the advice! I'll look into it, even though my goal here is to have to bring as little equipment as possible :)

Learn something new every day I guess. Apologies for the incorrect information and thanks for checking the manual for me.
Here are a couple of DI box Ideas for you.

Both of these will convert from Unbalance to balanced and as they ar passive designs they do not require batteries or an external power supply.
Tearemup's idea with the graphic eq solves two problems and is well woth a look. This gives you the Unbal to Bal conversion and the ability to taylor your sound to suit different venues. It is well worth thinking about if you can deal with the extra size.
cheers
