I have been using my VMS4 without any problems for about 6 months, but as of late I have been having a lot of problems with it, which has nearly cost me quite a few gigs.
Most of the time, the problem occurs right as I flip the VMS4 on. When I plug into my laptop, a window pops up stating 'USB Device Not Recognized', and thus I cant start up VDJ, because it couldn't detect the controller (Currently Im using the VDJ that came packaged with the VMS4, Windows 7). My first solution was to re-install the drivers/VDJ, to no avail. Only once in a blue moon can I get it to turn on without any issues, and that's only if I happen to have it tilted in some obscure direction.
I called tech support, and all they suggested was that my computer doesn't have enough memory... currently I operate with 3gb memory, so Im almost certain that is not the issue.
In the off chance I do get the VMS4/VDJ fired up without issue, the controller/software will freeze without warning, and the music will stop mid-song. This has happened way too much in the past few weeks, and I have had to resort at times to iTunes with a headphone jack adapter just to keep the music going.
The VMS4 has been in a flight case its whole life, so I can't see wear/tear as the problem.
Does anybody have any solutions? Could it perhaps be something on my laptop? I want to try all solutions possible before I just send it in for warranty, as I DJ just about every weekend and it wouldn't be back in time.
Thank you in Advance! Sorry for the long post, trying to give you as much info as possible!

Have a look around on the American DJ forums. I seem to remember others having similar problems.
You may find a solution there.

Before sending your unit back, you should try excluding other possibilities.
- Try different USB cables
- Make a clean fresh installation of Windows, and add only drivers, necessary softwares and VirtualDJ.

Agreed,
Do you have another usb cable available to you? Have you/Can you try a different usb port on your computer?
Does either end seem loose if you try to wiggle it?

Using a different USB Port doesnt make a difference. I will buy another USB cable and let you all know what happens! Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Register your product, and then download the new version of VDJ LE. Much better than the packaged version.

Hey,
I have been having problems with the VMS4 as well. I type in VMS4 trouble shooting in the google search engine and the first thing that pops up is the exact problem Im having "external device not detected." Needless to say, I will do all I can to correct this problem however I gig throughout the week so sending the controller back to the manufacturer is out of the question at the moment. I also have had to resort to using iTunes just to get through the gigs and after all the money I have spent on upgrades (which dont include mappers) Im still left with a machine that wont operate.
I will try buying a new USB cable if that dosent work, I will have to trash this controller and buy a new product unfortunately. I cant afford any further misrepresentation of what I do or who I am.
Regards
