Sujet Soundcard Problems

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Hi all, a friend of mine has started to have problems with his VDJ and external soundcard, he has come to me for help as i am a pc tech and i can't work it out.

When he sets up everything works fine, each deck on VDJ assigned to its own channel. Sometimes when he turns either his lights on or fires up his smoke machine the audio cuts out and he either has to go into config/audio and click on apply or sometimes reboot to get the sound working. This happens with any USB soundcard that he has used, BUT NOT if he uses the internal soundcard on the laptop.
Any ideas ???

I've seen a thread in the past about problems with having smoke machines plugged in the same socket as the laptop. Do a search, if I find the link ill post it. In the meantime try it without the lights or smoke machine, if the problem goes away switch outlets and try running more test.

Sorry I couldn't be more.help

After a lot of research i think i have found the problem.
Everything points to a dirty power supply on the live/neutral part of the circuit.
It will be more noticeable in pubs/bars/clubs due to the coolers for drinks and fridges on and off all the time.
As its live/neutral problem a lot of surge protectors wont stop the problem so it looks like a good grade UPS is needed.

Hope this helps anyone else that has suffered from the same problem.

It could just be a badly designed PSU for the laptop that's letting too much garbage through.

Some of them are really dreadful.

It may be cheaper than buying a UPS to just try another (third party) generic laptop PSU - make sure the voltage and current specs match though.
