Sujet: skipping & jumping

i have full vdj with hercules mp3 e2 controller running on a 3 year old well used acer 7730 getting ready to play out for the first time and are experiencing quite a lot of skipping jumping etc when mixing. would it be wise to get a new laptop just to run vdj and store the music?
