Are there any issues with using the NS7 with video mixing?

Nope, as long as your pc has the required specs. DJ Larry D has been using the NS7 for video for years.

You need a laptop that has alot more than the requiered specs. The specs were written years ago when HQ videos were available. For the past two years, Videos have been relased in HD quality. With a NS7 deck, you will get some Lag because the NS7 use more resources plus the strain of HD videos.

You should be able to do video mixing just fine with a laptop that is not too old and has a good video card. Just be sure to put a fan on it and keep it cool. Watch your cpu usage.

If you have any problems just be sure that your settings are correct.

Hey james, if I recall u were having video mixing problems with me & we were posting about it. Did u ever get it fixed? I was never able to. I am going to buy a new laptop but I believe we were discussing that there were issues with amd or ati video cards? Something with a video leak? Let me know because I don't want the same issues with the new laptop.

I think the issue is with a soecific model ATI card from 2 or 3 years ago, which there was no fix. It is something you will find out after playing 2 songs for 5 minutes the video will freeze, much like the dreaded Nvidia freeze. Other than that, make sure you get a decent processor, like a 2nd gen i5 or i7

I mix video and use the NS7. No problems to report. I use a 3.2ghz i5 desktop PC, Win 7, 8 gig ram and NVIDIA 9800GT video card. Solid rig for over a year. I can run the middle ASIO latency setting of 256 with keylock on. I built 6 computers and this was the best config.

All I can say is don't go crazy with multi core processors. VDJ and the NS7 will only use one core. I don't ever peg that core either. I have learned that the speed of the core is the most important thing. That also came straight from Numark. 2.4ghz is the minimum spec for the NS7, end of story. Exceed that or I would not even try the NS7. You will end up with all the same headachs myself and several others here had. Follow my PC build above or do better and it will serve you well.

Honestly, there may be better ways play back music than this resource hog (reffering to the NS7). Wish I knew that before I started. I wanted to learn to scratch on it, but there is just some platter drift and 256 ASIO buffer is still just too "laggy". That being said, since I built the PC above, I have been pretty happy and it really turns heads.

i too use the ns7 w/ vdj for video mixing ...no problems whatsoever

@DJ VooDoo Yes I am using the same laptop from back then. The issue was fixed for me by DJ Cell I believe. Has worked great ever since then. By the way i did not have an ATI card it is an Nvidia card. Their was more than one type of card that was having problems and different fixes for each. That was one of the longest running threads ever. It was not really an NS7 issue but rather just a video mixing problem. I believe the problem to be inherent in the software and am hoping that the total rewrite of Virtual DJ 8 will fix this as the original Virtual DJ was written for older machines and it seems that newer versions were more like upgraded patches of the original software and fixes for problems that arose with newer machines. I am looking forward to the total rewrite with the help of the PCDJ people. Hopefully the newer software will be designed to work with the newer video cards and take advantage of the newer technology instead of trying to find fixes and workarounds to force old tech to work on newer tech machines.

On a side note, the NS7 has a remarkably good sound card. I used to just run the output from my Maya USB external audio card but thought I would try just using the NS7 output and I get at least as good or better sound quality.
