Sujet: Sound Distortion on VMS4 / VDJ

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Although I had the VMS4 for some time now, I haven't really used it much. I recently started beatmixing/synching two songs together and I noticed the songs which had different BPM's than the original track currently playing synched the beats quite good BUT when I faded over to the next song while fading away from the original song there was some noise distortion and a very minor halt of the played song when I switched the PITCH on the VMS4 controller to the middle to it's original BPM?? is this a defect in the VMS4 or VDJ? your input would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!

The distortion could just be the VMS4 overloading.

It's very easy to do, and is one of the first things I discovered when I bought mine.

The suggested running levels in the manual are nonsense. If you run the VMS4 like that it'll sound dreadful.

What you need to do in order to avoid distortion is to run the gains around -3db or -4db on each channel. That way, when you add EQ or are in a mix (where the two channels are combined) it won't push the signal over 0db.

Yes, the VMS4 is known for this.

You will need to upgrade to the VMS4.1, where they have fixed the problem and increased the output.

Nothing to do with VDJ.

thanks guys!!

Hats off to groovindj...problem solved!! i minimized the GAINS on channels 2 & 3 on the VMS4 and no distortion whatsoever. I can live with the Output levels so no upgrade is req'd other than the INNOFADER...as i'm only a bedroom DJ. Happy Mixing!!

djmagicmoments is right....I should upgrade to the VMS4.1 as the VMS4 has it's issues 1)noise distortion & 2)low volume output..I initially thought the noise distortion would go away by adjusting the gains on both channels at lower levels but however i'm still experiencing somewhat of a unpleasant distortion grrrrrrrrrr...I honestly feel like literaly chucking my VMS4 out my window LOL and i'm kickin myself for not having waited for the newer version to come out like people previously suggested on this forum.

I have the new VMS4.1 and I still get the small distortion and I don't even need to be mixing. I get it even if I drive the sound at -4db. it comes and goes. brand new VMS4.1. Anybody can help? should i return it?

Hi, mine was working fine and then started distorting. Change the timestretch setting to fast in config and it should solve your problem.
