Sujet Playlist question

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I didn't see this in the search results, so I hope someone can help me.

I'm a single op, and I use two identical IBM ThinkPad T-61's. I generally use the main unit, but I keep the other in my bag at the gig in case of crash. I keep the music on two identical Seagate 500 Gb external HDD's, same reason. I have VDJ Pro on both units, and try to keep them units as identical as possible, just for "just in case" situation.

I recently changed the drive letters on my externals. Originally they were the "E" drive, but if I used a thumb drive, or plugged my phone in the USB to charge the battery, etc, the OS (Windows XP) would change the drive letter of my external, without asking me. Sometimes, even after a restart, the system would not change it back to "E", VDJ would then not be able to find my music, and I would freak out! :) lol

So, I changed the drive letters permanently, and renamed the drives. The primary external drive is now "M" for Music, and the secondary is "S" for Secondary.

All is good, except now, all my VDJ playlists only show the song titles, but won't link to the song, so I can't automix, or play the songs. I have to do a search for every song individually. I had built wedding pre-ceremony lists, cocktail hour lists, MobileBeat Top 200 list, and jazz lists, etc.

Is there a way to have VDJ update the new drive letter / location for these playlists, or will I have to rebuild the lists, one song at a time?

There are several VDJ database editors in the DOWNLOAD/Plugins/Tools & Drivers area which might be capable of doing this for you....

If not then it is possible to modify the path by editing the main VDJ database XML file in a text editor and doing a simple 'search and replace' on the song locations.

For example the XML file might have locations like this:
<Song FilePath="E:\Music\N\Nas - I Can.mp3" FileSize="3096892">

You would search and replace the E:\ part with M:\ or whatever you require.

Backup the database XML first, and edit the copy!

No need to edit any database.

Unfortunately Playlists are path sensitive, and you will have either to manually edit them (replace e.g. E:\ with S:\ ) or use the Playlist Fixer http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/13794/Playlist_Fixer.html

Alternatively, you may use VirtualFOlders in the future instead of Playlists . Those are parts of the Database and not path sensitive (changing the letter of an external Drive is not affecting their operation)

Will the Virtual Folders let the music play automatically? Like during cocktail hour.

Or will I need to be there cuing the decks manually?

If manual, then I will need to continue to use the playlists, so that while VDJ is auto-playing, I can go get the bridal party in the right order for introductions, etc. :)

Playlists appear in the Playlist/Automix window automatically each time you select one (when Autoload Playlists is in Smart/Always mode in Config->Options)
With VirtualFolders, you will have to click on one of them, then click on a file in the Songs window, press CTRL+A to select all files and then drag them to the Playlist window.
So, those can be played of course in Automix mode, but you will have do a few things before that.
