Hi all, I've been reading through the forums a lot, but I'm actually quite confused with the Master Deck thing.
Even when using just a two deck skin I still often can not use the sync button on deck one. But even on a four deck skin, which I would prefer, I have a NS6 so I'd like to use the NS6 skin, I just don't get it really. Let's say deck 1 is the master, does that mean I can not sync deck 1 anymore while playing, I certainly can not seem to, it just doesnt do anything then. If I make deck 3 master then I does, but this seems very counter intuitive. Please tell me if I'm missing something.

The master is the sum of all channels. A deck is a channel, and the result of your mix comes out of your Master-output.
Assigning a deck to the master is not the right way. That is probably why syncing won't work.

I think you have misunderstood what I'm asking. I am not assigning a channel to the master output, I'm talking about how VDJ requires a deck to be a MasterDeck (in 4 decks and above at least) which the others then sync thir tempo to when the sync button is pressed. But by doing this you can no longer press the sync button on which ever deck is assigned as the MasterDeck.

When you assign a deck as "master" then all sync functions (of the other decks) work towards this deck. Pressing sync on the master deck has no result as you're saying the deck to sync with itself.
Even if that wasn't the case, the "master" deck would need to know with which of the other 3 decks it should sync, thous requiring a "secondary master" deck, which defeats the purpose of having a master deck in first place.
I don't know how you use the master deck functions but you should assign the "master" deck function to the deck that's on air at each time. This way you will be able to use "sync" to the other decks (the qued decks) to sync them with the on air deck before you start your mix and bring them on air.

Cheers mate, I just got a very helpful post in a NS6 topic I'd posted a similar, but more ns6 specific question in from Synthet1c. I was under the mistaken impression that once a deck is set to be the Master Deck that it stayed the Master Deck, thus leading to my confusion. It just didn't make any sense. But I see now that the Master Deck changes with the faders. When I was testing everything today (I come from another VirtuL DJ program tht only had two decks, and from CD and earlier vinyl before that), I wasn't always moving the channel faders or cross fader, thus not triggering the change in Master Deck. It's all clear now, variable Master Deck makes sense, static one does not. Everything I'd read I had clearly misunderstood to imply that it was static.

Hi guy's sorry for jumping on your thread, but I'm using the NS6 also and am having trouble with syncing. I can't get it to switch automatically with the volume faders or cross faders or with the pfl buttons. I'm using the 4 deck skin. I can change it manually which is a pain as I have to change the deck from the effects to the player section of the deck so it brings up the MASTER just abouve the sync button and change it from there by clicking the master button. If i click on the deck 1, 2, 3 or 4 symbols on each deck it doesn't appear to do anything.
I get that one deck has to be the master and the next song in the next deck sync's to that, but say your now in deck 2 which is outputing as the master and I want to sync deck 1 to it - how do I do it whithout changing to the player deck and pressing the master button. Of course I could use the pitch sliders but to match the beat (but that doesn't always seem to match perfetly).
Can it be done somehow by simply moving the crossfader.

Hi i have a numark n4 nd i am using virtual dj (the 20 day free trial dat came with LE) the masterdeck wont change automatically when i mix in a new song so i have to change it manually by using the mouse. is there any settings i need to have to make this change automatically. i am using windows . it only happens when i have my numark n4 connected
