cheers man,i kinda need something 'hands - on' though as im a bit fed up using a mouse to mix with,i used to have record decks and miss having a mixer. im on a bit of a budget and if i bought VDJ Pro id still be stuck mixing with the laptop. do u think the Numark Mixtrack is worth getting?? http://www.amazon.com/Numark-MIXTRACK-DJ-Software-Controller/dp/B003UVASTO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&m=A304D686EJ3MRJ&s=generic&qid=1344104665&sr=1-4

Try the Mixtrack Pro...Proven track record. Very Popular. Nice large platters to spin on.
or the original RMX...Again, proven quality. Very Popular. Small platters more suited to electronic music mixing
or the NEW RMX II is dropping soon. Same as the old, but with much improved platters or JOGS, and improved sound card and velocity pads for loops, cues and samples......
Any of these setups you cannot go wrong with on a budget setup...All of these controllers are being used by pro dj's )mostly mobile) everyday throughout the world......Links to all 3 are below......Note, not sure which ones come with Virtual DJ LE, but it is always the LE version they all come with. You will need to upgrade top VDJ PRO to utilize all of the features. With the controller though you do get a nice discount on the software . But make sure the controller you choose is packaged with VDJ LE for the discount. Some ship with Traktor.....

cheers mate, youve helped alot :) is Traktor any good? ive heard Andy C uses it.

Tacktor is considered probably the deepest of the big 3...Serato, Traktor and VDJ......But being so customizable it is somewhat difficult to learn and especially to map...Mapping your controller lets you set up what the buttons on the controller do functions to your liking. This is a big thing as you will fond out.... Serato is preferred by a lot of hip hop djs for its great scratching ability and simplicity..Traktor is preferred by many "controllerists" for its massive customizability (if that's a word...lolol).......VDJ is a hybrid of both...VDJ is very customizable and easier to customize as well. The FULL PRO version has all you will ever need and more to dj. VDJ costs more up front, but LIFETIME updates are free. Not with Traktor at all. VDJ 8 is launching at any time and is promised to be a MAJOR upgrade to the current program...Again., FREE to current license holders.......VdJ is preferred by most mobile Djs and also allows for video mixing which the other two do not......
Got to run for now, but any other questions you have either private message me or I will check this thread 2morrow am... Good luck! =D

This is what I did:
Bought: VDJ PRO. I looked at them all.
Bought: A pair of controllers for 4 deck control. I like having 4 platters to work on.
I took the time and expense to travel to a DJ show to do the touchy feely on most all the choices. I also went to all my local shops to see what they had.
I've been going to the Atlantic City DJ Times Expo yearly to see what is currently out. And then I can get a feel for what I am comfortable with using.
Glad I did because there is one major manufacture that has a controller with very sloppy control wheels. Others are mini wheels that I don't really like. I chose a pair of black Vestax VCI-100s. I like the solid engineering, the touch sensitive platters, the size, the backlit colors, and on and on.
The best thing going is using Virtual DJ's Scripting language. It gives you total control. You can tweak the feel of the jog wheels, change the function of knobs, buttons, and sliders. It's just an amazing tool.
And VDJ Script lets you challange yourself in being creative. I use a skin that I modified in several ways.
My current project is putting eject buttons on each of the 4 decks. And a latched reverse play button on them also. I have the skin done with some nice buttons. Now I have to program the functions. That is my challange. I'll get it done though. I've figured it out. It's just low on the to-do list.
So good luck with your choices. Hope any of this helps.

1. customizability
Ability to customize. Originally conceived and formulated in the West Covina. Generally used to describe vulnerability assessment software to prospective end users and to let them know the shit works.
The customizability of our software is the number one reason why people buy our product. You can find a buncha hackers, crackas, and angry chinamen breaking into your network.

Jay,
For $150 bucks it looks ok. But I would have to get my hands on it to feel it out.
I like smooth wheels, cool looks, lots of buttons and knobs, and heavy duty construction. Best bet is get to a dealer and see it in person.
Yet... perhaps this one is cheap enough to just buy it online. It depends how much you want to invest in your business. The good stuff will last for a long while. The cheap stuff you will outgrow quickly.
My first VCI-100 (sliver) I saw at an Atlantic City DJ Times show. I think it was $399. I wasn't going to trust just seeing them on a website or YouTube video. The trip was around 2.5 hours from my house.
I see this one your looking at has the touch sensitive platters. That is a great feature.
And VDJ Pro? Great investment. It will grow with you.
Good luck.

I would say the mixtrack PRO with vdj le or Hercules rmx(prelistening tracks purposes). The rmx is probably cheaper on Amazon. I think they are both great starter sets. Only difference is the jogwheels. I've only got rmx but both give you half off discount on vdj pro(at least for sure rmx does). Then you can use one of those entry level controllers with vdj pros full potential and as you learn and understand the program you can get the gigs and save up for whatever equipment you prefer. That way if you get either one of those controllers you won't miss out on th vdj pro discount. Cause once you go pro the possibilities are endless!:)
Posté Sun 05 Aug 12 @ 2:17 am
if I were you id get the RMX over the mixtrack... the RMX has a 4in 4out ASIO soundcard that you could use for timecode, has a more solid construction... The negative is that it doesn't have any effects knobs (although you could easily re-purpose the gain knobs) The mixtrack only offers endless encoders for effects which aren't as good as absolute knobs imo.
But honestly it doesn't matter as they both give 50% off upgrading which is the main benefit of either of these controllers. Once you upgrade then you can use any other controller you want when you have some more coin, I would suggest the VCI-400 or Reloop TM4 from the range of available controllers...
VDJ's scripting is much much... much more powerful than traktors mapping could ever hope to be. Where traktor is better is their integration of effects into the program if that's your thing, but all the same type of effects and more are possible in VDJ their just not set up as nicely.

Congratulations..
1.I would suggest you download the latest drivers from hercules website..
2.And take FULL advantage of the 20 day trial of the Pro version..
I didnt have much experience with the software when I got my hercules so unfortunately I spent most of my time trying to learn all the functions while loading all my music onto my laptop.
Good Luck

I Love my MTP (Mixtrack Pro) but unfortunately Numark is partnering with serato ..... tried DJ intro and for my money , buy VDJ pro then down the line (with all the upgrades coming out)( pick up a Numark Mixtrack Pro. Unless you can find one with VDJ LE, Then buy the numark and then UPGRADE to pro.
I am planning up upgrading after the 7.1 release ... then FREE UPGRADES for life .......

Please give us a bit more info about your computer and your setup.
Computer spec? Are you playing audio or video? External hard drive or not? What else is running on the computer besides VDJ?
The more info, the better.
