Guys I have a couple issues with VDJ:
I own both a Numark N4 and a Numark Mix Deck Express. I have VDJ LE for both. I have two new Toshiba laptops and wish to use both on either controller, as a primary and a back up.
Is there a way to have the VDJ program for both controllers on one computer? If no what is a work around, maybe a thumb drive? The only time these computers are seperated is if we have two gigs on the same night, maybe once a year, otherwise I like to have the second computer out and booted as a backup, this is why having both VDJ programs available is so important.
The sound I get from my Mix Deck with VDJ is much better than my N4. I choose external mixer. On my N4 it doesn't give me any choices, just to use the computer sound card, which is affected by the computer volume settings. Any suggestions on how to get a better sound product out of the N4?
I have pretty good equipment, maybe not top shelf, but at the bottom of top shelf when it comes to speakers, amps, processing and cables:
4 EV-TX1181s subs
2 EV-TX1152s tops
2 EV-TX1122s tops
3 EV-Q1212s amps
1 EVDCONE processor
I am finding I may have scrimped on the controllers, as Numark customer support has not been much to speak of, however 20 years ago I used thier stuff and it was great with super customer support. I guess that generation died or retired and I am stuck with a group of really young smart guys who don't like helping people. Thus I have come here for some help.
Thanks

VirtualDJ LE is free limited software and will only work with the controller it was included with. I.e: VirtualDJ LE for MixDeck Express will only work with the MixDeck Express controller.
To be able to use both simultaneously (Or swap between them without re-installing the software), you would need to upgrade to the full VirtualDJ Pro at a discount: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html - Your MixDeck Express VirtualDJ LE serial number will give you the most discount out of the two, allowing you to purchase the full Pro for $199 instead of the normal full price of $299.
The full Pro will also allow you to use any sound card of your own choice, i.e: If you have both MixDeck Express and N4 connected, you can use the sound card from the MixDeck Express if you find its quality is better but still control VirtualDJ from both the N4 and MixDeck Express.
If you don't wish to upgrade at this point, then the only other options are:
(1) Create two different user logins on each computer and install MixDeck Express VirtualDJ LE under one login and Numark N4 LE under the other. This should allow you to log in as the appropriate user depending on which controller you wish to use. Obviously you won't be able to use both controllers at the same time on the same computer (The full Pro is required for this.)
(2) Install MixDeck Express VirtualDJ LE on one computer and Numark N4 LE on the other.

Thanks for the help!
Let me insure I understand this before I spend money. I am not against upgrading if it will do what I want and give me a better product.
If I buy Pro, it will give me the ability to put the program for the mixdeck and n4 on each computer (one as a primary and the other the back up), if both computers are running, they would be in different locations and one would be running the mixdeck, the other the n4.
I can put a desk top quick link to launch either the n4 or mixdeck and they will not conflict, as it did when I added the mixdeck VDJLE, I had to remove the N4 VDJLE program, before it would address and work with the mixdeck.
I was sent instructions by Preston at Numark on how to improve my sound with the N4 by using an ASIO driver however my ADJLE does not give me that choice, will it become available in PRO?
What I am looking for in the end. Two computers (primary and backup), with VDJ icons on the desktop of both, that will properly start either the VDJ for the N4 and mix deck and not conflict.
Better quality sound from the N4, as I received from the mix deck express, when I choose external mixer. I am stuck on the internal sound card of the computer for the N4.
Thanks again Ray J.

If you purchase the full Pro, then you won't need the separate LE versions for MixDeck and N4 anymore.
Unlike VirtualDJ LE, the full Pro is not restricted to using a single device. You can plug in and use any supported controller without needing to re-install the software. You can even use both controllers at the same time! The only thing you will need to change when swapping between them is your sound settings to suit the controller you have connected. A full list of supported controllers can be seen on the following page: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VirtualDJ%20Controllers.html
Your VirtualDJ Pro license can be installed on upto two computers at any one time - One as primary and one as a backup, providing it is for your own personal use. If you need to use the software in two different locations simultaneously (Or wish to allow another DJ to use your other computer), you will need two licenses (Or you could use VirtualDJ LE on the other computer.)
Numark N4 doesn't have native ASIO drivers. ASIO4ALL is just a software ASIO emulator and is unlikely to give you better sound quality. If anything, it may cause you problems due to the additional system overheads (See ASIO4ALL)
However, in the full Pro, you can use any sound card of your own choice, including an external dedicated multi-channel DJ sound card if you wish, such as Numark DJIO, Hercules DJ Trim, etc.
For a summary of the differences of between VirtualDJ LE and the full Pro, please see http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html

I bought the Pro and put it on one computer, so far. I will work with it tonight. I do not see where it gives you an option to pick a controller (it is not hooked to anything here at work). So I am guessing it will see what it is hooked to when I open it and set up the proper number of decks and give me the right selections within configure.
I will never DJ with my computer active on the internet, will that cause any issue with the softwar?
Thanks again for all your help!
Ray J.

Thank you for purchasing the full version.
Native supported MIDI controllers are detected and used automatically in the full Pro. So you just need to make sure that the controller(s) that you wish to use is connected before you start the software. You can see which controller(s) have been detected by going to CONFIG -> Mappers. You can also optionally change the mappings of buttons if you wish to suit your own preferences. You can also rescan for MIDI controllers and change their deck assignments if using a 4 deck skin.
When swapping between MixDeck and N4 the only thing you may need to change is your sound configuration to match the controller that you have connected (In LE this is pre-configured for the controller it was designed for.) To check/change your sound settings, please go to CONFIG -> Sound Setup.
You don't need to have your computer connected to the Internet to use the software (Unless you wish to use the NetSearch feature, which requires a separate Premium Membership subscription.)
However, you should check once per month or so in your Download Center for any updates, such as the forthcoming v7.1 and v8 versions of VirtualDJ which will be released in the future (These updates will be free for existing Pro users like yourself.)

Once again thanks for the help!
Is there a way in the VDJ software to go in and deactivate the platters. My daughter has CP and is doing well on the old school drag, drop and mix with the vertical sliders. I locked out the cross fader on the N4, would like to know how to do it on the mix deck express also, however her biggest problem is dexterity. She wants me to lock out the platters, completely the scratch and the cue portions, so that anytime she touches them, they do nothing.
Thanks Ray J.

Go to conifig > mappers
Press the button to the right of keyboard and unclick "show only connected devices"
Press the keyboard button and it will list all the controller mappings. Select Numark Mixdeck Express
Find JOG and JOG_TOUCH in the mapping list, click on it and change the action on the right to "nothing" (without the quotes)
That will disable the jog wheels completely.

Thanks,
This same action will work for both mix deck express and the n4? Additionally can I deactivate the mix deck cross fader from the same area?
Thanks Ray J.

Yes, any command can be disabled by putting nothing in the action box.
If you're unfamiliar withVDJ mapping, probably better to take a note of what you've changed if you want to go back. Any controller mapping can be reset to default as well if required so if you screw something up it's not permanent.
Let us know if you need any more info.

I could very well be wrong but I think the mixer section of the mixdeck is anolog and doesnt have mapping??
Posté Fri 17 Aug 12 @ 2:21 pm
Yeah, the mixdeck mixer section and crossfader are hardware only so can't be disabled from within VDJ.

thanks again, dissabled the wheels on both decks. was able to lock out cross fader on N4 from the deck controls. I taped the crossfader on the mix deck.
Guys I run VDJ, use my itunes library, from computer to N4 or mix deck express, to Samson S10 mixer, to EV-DCONE, to a pair of EV-Q1212 amps (sometimes three EV-Q1212 amps for large room) to four EV-TX1181 subs, two EV-TX1152 tops and two EV-TX122 tops. The speaker and amp combos are all predicated on room size and type crowd I play for.
I am great with my gain structure all thru the system, however where should the computer volumes be set with these decks to start out with the best signal going into the mixer?
Thanks again you guys have been a great help to me and my daughter!!

Go to Config>OPTIONS then on the right side you will see Auto Gain. Click on that until you see Auto+Remember.
Then as long as you're song has been fully analyzed it will be set to the gain you used it last.

My Club owner just bought a new HP Envy Dr. Dre Beats computer. 64 bit 8 gigs of ram. Works great ... when NOT connected to our projector. Then I read in the forums that some 64 bit systems do not play well w/ VDJ Pro. When i connect to the projector using HDMI out it does not work. When I use the hardware acceleration button it shows a frozen video shot but does not play. Is the problem the 4 bit or VDJ. HELP! I spent $300 on this program but it does not work with an $800 computer. There has to be a driver patch or something. Any suggestions?

How about creating your own thread ... your question has nothing to do with this thread's topic.

I am OK with my thread being hijacked as you guys got me up and running :) however I bet it would be much easier to get the support you need with a new thread and the proper help title :)
