Sujet: Use CAUTION with the New RMX II Skin! (DJDAD)

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I was trying this skin out and downloaded the source files. Installed in VDJ folder and launched...All Fine.....Closed and relaunched, got message on load the "skin was too high a resolution for my screen"...(at this point every other skin I have ever used will still fire up albeit at a different size than designed) this time nothing will appear on screen. I removed the RMX 2 zipped skin folder. VDJ now wont open because the loaded skin file is missing. Ended up having to do a TOTAL restore to my VDJ folder to get it straightened out. Thank god I had a recently updated backup. .....DJDAD, is this a bug in the skin causing this? do all non- properly sized skins do this now?.......what is going on, and is there anyway to revert the missing skin file and open vdj through the registry, folder next time?

Next time better post skin related issues in our Skin Forum..

Skin is coming at the moment only at 1600x900. You will have to resize the skin to lower resolution to fit to your screen using the Skin Resizer Tool http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/7187/Skin_Resizer_Tool.html
Deleting the file, the software is looking for the skin you used last time, and can not find it.
To resolve this download the Registry Tool http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/2170/Registry_Tool.html
choose CLEAN ALL and close the tool.
Re install your software from your download center.. http://www.virtualdj.com/download/updates.html
(will not harm any files. Choose Repair if prompts for actions during installtion)

Clearly you forgot the size of you're native resolution. I have downloaded that skin since its release and have had no issues with it...

I thought I had posted this in the "Skins Forum." I apologize....DJDAD, thanks for the tip on how to clean up that situation when VDJ locks because a skin got deleted. I will be a lifesaver. As I had mentioned, usually the skin just shows up slightly misshapen, but I can still get a good look at it in VDJ even at the wrong resolution....Oh well, VDJ 8 is supposed to allow much easier skin previews...Thanks again...

I alway keep VDJ default skin in the skin folder so when the skin is not there it will go to the default skin
.

I did that and no luck........It gets worse. I reinstalled VDJ and tried to copy my old database and xml file back into VDJ. It launched cleanly, everything intact (effects, samples, etc) and my file tree layout is correct with all of my custom folders, etc....but when I go to access a folder form the file tree, NOTHING. It will not pull the tracks from my ext. drive. Now my ext. drive is available under Computer - Drive E: - MP3 collection,.....but no cue pts. left, all BPMs are rescanning now and I have a TON of file info fields to fix.....Not exactly sure where I ran into trouble. Too many steps were executed on my part to trace the problem down.......I learned a lesson the hard way =D .....Quick question though in case this ever happens again...

1. Does the file folder layout, all created folders etc store in the VDJ Database on the C drive?

2. Do the Cue pts. store in the VDJ Database on the C Drive?

3. What Exactly stores on the LOCAL drive xml?

4. If I ever need to re install I MUST save and re-copy the VDJ Database on the C drive back into the clean install's VDJ folder thus REPLACING the new database I just created with old database with my file structure, cues, etc.,..... correct?
and then the local xml on my ext. drive will sync up to the clean install automatically as it has not been touched or affected.

This would put me back to normal without any errors to cause issues......

Your external HD should still have the database xml file it the root directory (check please)
From VirtualDJ browser, rightclick on the External Drive (E), and choose add to search DB. This might take a few seconds/minutes.
Then goto Config-->Browser tab , select the E drive and do..Check, Clean and Fix with that order.
Check, may take some time.
You should be ok, after that.

Blaze I had the samething happen to me a few weeks back. VDJ would crash when I tried to use a certain skin so like you I removed it and when I tried to open VDJ back up, I got the same error. And Yes the default skins were still in the folder. And I had to completely uninstall and then reinstall VDJ to get it to work again........ I sent a crash report but I think that's just dust in the wind now.

So I think something got broke along the way in VDJ cause if a skin wouldn't work you just closed VDJ, go to the skin folder and remove it then open up VDJ and the default skin would be there. It seems to me that process isn't working anymore. But I'm no programmer sooooo.......
Maybe we should try something, everybody go into your skin folder and remove the skin your currently using, now open VDJ back up and see if you get an error when opening VDJ back up. If you do I'd say There's a problem somewhere....
