I created a few playlists for some events I have coming up on the left side of the program. The songs I've already put in there pop up on the right side when I click on that particular playlist. However, when I want to add more music to that certain playlist and I click on the external drive's various folders, the playlist songs that were previously displayed on the right, have now disappeared and it's blank. So my question is, how do I add music to these playlists without having to search for a bunch of songs?

Load one song from the playlist in a player, then add more songs to it. That has always worked for me.

TearEmUp's suggestion is good.
you can also move your new tracks to the "sidelist" then load the playlist and add them.
