So I purchased the idj3 for my son. We can't seem to get it working for more than 10 minutes. We are prompted to purchase software. I contact tech support at NUMARK and was told the idj3 only has "basic functions." Wait. If mixing and playing songs is more than a basic function what do you do with it? Let me state, I am not savvy in the least about this technology and my son is 8. He's been begging me for a long time for some equipment like this and on a trip to Best Buy to purchase a XBOX, he opted for this instead. Imagine my frustration when we were told we needed to buy additional software. I've read the forums, the manuals, nothing seems to explain to me how to set this up for a kid to play with.

Can some please advise ? Surely my lack of know-how is the issue and we don't need to purchase profession software so an 8 year old can play & mix songs on his computer?

If someone has some advise on configuration with a laptop, in layman terms, I would really appreciate it.

If it's cutting out after 10 minutes then you are using the "home Free" version of VirtualDJ and that is supposed to happen as the 10 minute limit allows testing of midi controllers.

I'm guessing it came with an installation CD containing VirtualDJ LE version. If so, you need to uninstall the home free version, install LE from the CD and enter the serial number from the paper CD sleeve when prompted.

This will then allow your son to use the controller with VirtualDJ LE permanently and you do not need to upgrade to the Pro version unless you wish to do so.

Please advise if you need any further information.

Keith

Numark idj3 comes with a limited version of VirtualDJ named VirtualDJ LE. You should install that software from the CD that you get with the controller and use that software to operate the unit in long periods of time.
The VirtualDJ Home Edition FREE version you are trying to use works with external controllers only for 10 minutes as a DEMO. After the first 10 minutes, the software will stop communicating with your controller and you will be able to use it only with your mouse and keyboard.

Please read the following pages:

If your unit didn't come with a VirtualDJ LE installation disc but only with Mixvibes Cross DJ LE and you still want to use VirtualDJ I would highly suggest you to contact support and submit a ticket via the following page: http://www.virtualdj.com/contact/index.html
Perhaps they'll be able to help you more!

Thanks Keith. You were correct. Tech support at Numark had sent me the link to download the free version with a note to make sure my software was updated! Ugh. I uninstalled all and re-installed the CD. In the interim I also per another forum found out the RCA speakers output thingys need to go into the mic input and ta-dah! Thank you for all that took the time to help.
