Sujet: Clearing remembered auto-gain levels

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Hi,

While experimenting, I manually adjusted the gain settings for some tracks before I learned about 'auto-gain' and 'auto-gain+remember'.
How can I clear the remembered gain settings for those tracks?

To my understanding, the remembered gain settings are never cleared (I've checked the DB file with a text editer and reloaded the tracks using both gain settings 'auto-gain' and 'auto-gain+remember'). E.g. Gain="2052" remains in the DB track entry.

For those tracks I want to use the automatically adjusted gain levels and store them (i.e. 'auto-gain+remember'). Currently I use 'auto-gain' because otherwise those tracks will use the stored values, which are wrong.

Do I have to manually edit the DB file to remove the gain values?

Thank you,
Nick

If you dont care about the stored gain values, then all you need to do is to use the Auto Gain instead of the "Remember".
The gain values stored in the database can not be deleted, unless you manually edit the database.xml file. However there could be a workaround.. a smart script to auto-load all the files and set gain actions, but havent tried that , so cant tell you if that is possible or not.

The Auto setting in the Options is the best choice for me. Nearly all files load at the level i want (0db) and only a few might need minor adjustments. If you set that to Auto it will disregard the value stored in the database and you will be fine.

Thanks for your advice. I've been using the 'auto' mode ever since I realised I'd set manual values by accident. I think I'll remove the 'Gain' fields from the DB file (after backing up of course!) as there are not too many of them, then I'll use 'auto+remember', and manually adjust the gain carefully only when needed.

I believe that the advantage in using 'auto+remember' is that when loading a track with 'remembered' values, the remembered gain is set immediately, instead of having to wait until the whole track is loaded.

Cheers,
Nick

Actually, my previous post isn't quite right: I've just figured out that a 'Gain' value is recorded in the DB only when the gain is manually altered from the autoset value (and in auto+remember mode). I.e. autoset gains are not remembered, only manually set gains.

If a file is previously scanned/played then the software will bring the gain to 0 db right away ( no need to wait for loading), if the setting is set to Auto.
