So I'm planning to start a DJing gig, and I've seen a ton of DJ's with Macs. Should I consider purchasing a mac just for this purpose?
I have a Lenovo T510 with windows 7.

Depends on the software you want to use, how much money you've got and what you're most comfortable with.
For VirtualDJ audio only 99.9% of laptops will work perfectly. The T510 comes in a multitude of specs so without knowing the exact model it would be difficult to say how good your laptop will be, but as above it will be fine for audio only.

If VDJ behaves well on the computer you already have I would suggest you stick with that for now.
If all goes well and you are earning some money from regular Gig's choose a machine and set it up just for VDJ. Some use Mac some use PC. VDJ works on both platforms and which you choose is a matter for your own preferance. Depends on what you are happy and confident with. Don't do it just cos your mate has one tho.
Have fun
