I'm sure I'll get blasted for this question.....I am interested in buying the Hercules DJ control mp3 e2 and it says no soundcard
Can it be installed?
Do I even need one?
And I would assume my laptop has a soundcard so why would I need one in the controller?
I have been a mobile DJ off and on since I was 13 and I am now 39 I have been DJing wedding, bars, house parties etc and for years I used cd only then I finally got away from that about 5 years ago and started using a laptop and using the old click drag method and mainly been using Windows media player and still bringing my cd's along to use once in awhile and this has worked great for me....However I am ready to change things up
So with all that being said just in the past month I have been playing around with various DJ software and I already know that I can use VDJ just like I have been using windows media player with click drag with obviously better mixing but I am wanting to go one step further and start using the software to the fullest and I know to do that I am gonna need a controller to do so.
So I am just looking to make a small investment in something for me to use/learn with before I take it to another level with a more advanced controller.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

The advantage of using a purpose designed DJ audio interface, whether it's built in to a controller or separate, is that it provides you with two separate stereo audio channels - one for your main output and one for cueing. Alternatively some provide a separate output for each deck, so you can mix using the hardware rather than dragging a pointer around on the screen.
Also if you invest in a professional interface it will give you lower latency, so there's no delay between what you do and what you hear.
I personally wouldn't buy a Hercules controller, as in my opinion they are aimed at the consumer market rather than professional use.
Having said that though, if you've been DJing for five years using Windows Media Player then even Hercules would be a giant leap!
How much are you looking at spending?

First off welcome to the VDJ family ..... most of us here are old heads and started many moons ago ..... I too finally decidedit was time to step up and join the digital ranks.... I decided on the Numark Mixtrack Pro .... has built in sound card and has never let me down .... and even though I am gonna be upgrading myself will never part with my MTP great beginning piece to utilize VDJ and will get the most bang for your buck ..... it has an onboard soundcard just plug the MTP into your laptop via USB and your rca outputs to your amp and away you go no muss no fuss ...

Thank you for the welcome
The system I use is a Numark icdmix2 I got it so I could still bounce back to cd's once in awhile and it was priced very reasonable....Mackie powered speakers and my laptop
This helps because I don't have haul around a seperate amp.....I assume I could still get a controller and run it thru that system?

Here here!
I too love my MTP - the nice people here have helped me map it to do all sorts of cool stuff that it should have had out the factory, gains, kill switches, clone buttons, allows for lots of neat tricks. And I only do it for fun... Its certainly quick and easy to set up, too.

OK if you've got a mixer then you don't really need to have one of these combi controller/mixer units that there are so many of...
There are some options which offer either just a plain controller (without a mixer) or a controller/soundcard.
One example of a plain controller is a PCDJ DAC3. Controls for two decks but no mixer and no soundcard.
Something similar but with sound would be the Denon HC4500. You could probably pick up a used DAC3 or HC4500 quite easily.

Awesome thank you for all the help....I'll do some looking around and in the meantime I'll use VDJ like I have been WMP and click and drag
I might add that I have been messing around with VDJ and have figured out ways to maunally mix and add sound effects etc
So for now that's the way I'll go
Thanks again

I laugh. Old at 39? You're only half old. :)
Do yourself a favor and get to the Atlantic City NJ Expo next week. You'll be amazed.
And you will get a great education. All the latest DJ/VDJ stuff in one place.
We can probably scrape up a free Exhibits pass for you. The exhibit area is open Tuesday through Thursday. It's really worth the effort.

I use the Hercules mk4 for small gigs. Basically the same as the controller you're looking at but with a sound card built in. For portability it is great it sounds good and works well with vdj. Personally if you like the small size of the controller step up to one with the sound card you can still plug it into your mixer and if you pick up a few smaller jobs you'll really appreciate the portability
I also use a VCI 300 for clubs and i like the mix track pro as well. Much larger but great for clubs
Oh ya. 39. Hahaha. Not old

You're depressed???? I've been DJing longer that he's been breathing. Now if I could just get this gun out of my mouth, I changed my mind.
