I'm a Virtual DJ newbie, so pardon my simple questions, but...
1) I'd like a load song in the deck button, instead of dragging the song to the deck. Is there such a thing?
2) Is there a "crossfade now" button? That is, I want to fade out the song playing in deck 1 (or 2) and fade in the song playing in deck 2 (or 1) doing it when I choose.
3) I want to resize the song browser window to make it bigger to show more songs. There seems to be areas in the default skin that I don't really need like at the very top and right above the song info (looks possibly like an area with thumbnail of the album art?)
4) Looks like V-DJ creates album art for me if I'm connected to the net. Is there a way to turn this off?
Thanks...I'll likely be back with more later. :-)

1) Yes, I think "Enter" does this by default, but a button of your choice could be mapped.
2) Yes, a button can be mapped to start the cross fader when you choose. The space bar may do this currently, depending on your settings within the configuration.
3) There are many skins available, one is likely to meet your needs. If not you can create one yourself or make a plea to some other users here on the forums. There are many talented skinners around.
4) Yes, the downloading of album art can be turned off in the configuration.
I'm sure I've misspoken on one or more of these points, but the overall answer is YES, VDJ can do what you want.

The important thing to do is.......read the manual. That way you won't need to ask questions.

Thanks TDB. Sorry groovindj if I have not read the manual cover to cover. I did search for answers and either didn't find them or didn't understand them completely. Your help and understanding as an experienced pro user going forward much appreciated. As regards...
1) The "Enter" does load a song, but only in deck 2 if there are already songs loaded. I see that a right-click on the song has the capability. I guess I was looking for a button in the interface itself. Maybe there's a skin that has this?
2) For me, the spacebar plays the song loaded in deck 2, but doesn't fade out the song in deck 1. They both play together. Maybe I'm missing a setting. Again, I guess I was looking for a button in the interface itself. Alt skin again maybe?
3) I did manage to resize the song area to get rid of what looks like the album art thumbnail and get a little bigger song area.
4) Thanks, I found it.
Thanks again...

If you do a double click on the song that you want to load. This will automatically load onto the next available deck :-D

If you right click on the song it will ask you if you want to load it on deck 1 or 2 I believe

map something to "mix_now" It will start the opposite deck to what you have in PFL and crossfade to that deck.
Also if you press enter when loading a track it should load the opposite deck again and change the deck you have in PFL. this is referred to as the "selected" deck. By default if you have anything mapped without specifying a deck, it will work on the selected deck. If you want to change the selected deck you can use the [TAB] key to cycle between all available decks.

I was trying to learn how to map something new in the mapper config area and likely messed up something that was already there. Not knowing how to undo it, I reloaded Virtual DJ from scratch. Unfortunately, this did not reset the mapper settings, nor did the "reset factory settings" button. Help please in doing this. Also a quick video on creating a new mapper setting would be most helpful. Thanks from a newbie.

Config > Mappers then click the first box (small disc) at the bottom left of the window.
That will reset any controller mapping to default settings.

Factory reset should revert your mapper back to how it was....
If that should fail (But shouldnt), you can always go to c:/my documents/virtualdj/mappers and delete the xml there.
Mapping your own way is a bit complex, but a crash course intro it works like this :
In the mapper settings in config :
1) Scroll down the list and choose the {new} entry at bottom
2) Click key/auto learn and press a key on keyboard controller
3) write in some action you want it to do, in the action field
the syntax for actions are all from super straight forwards like "play" to far more complex stuff...
You can read about the actions here : http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VDJscript.html
And if you just want to CHANGE a mapper (for example keyboard) you can go straight to entry on the mapper list, and just change the action field .

Thanks to you both, most helpful. I'm learning a lot and have added my first mapper key which is "mix_now_nosync". It works great.

Hello.
I'm very new to Virtual DJ and by no means an expert, but I'm quick at learning and i'm getting better!
The trouble i'm having is the storing of songs in the automix section. I made up a tracklist for a upcoming disco and stored the songs in a specific order; i.e: a song from 1980's, then 90's, then 00's and current and back to 80's...90's etc etc to be played in that order. However when transferred to the automix section they are in alphabetical order. They will shuffle but not in the order i've made them.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Frankie.

After you place a song in the playlist, you can drag them into the order you wish (left click and hold). You must then save that playlist, give it a name, and can recall it when you wish. It will remain in the order you saved.
