If im not mistaken if its a USB mic you dont need advanced config unless your using external mixer with external sound. If not using that then all you need is the following:
Input---Mic
Output---Headphone
Soundcard---core audio---whatever sound card you using
Something in your setup is wrong that is why you getting that error message.
Hope this helps

You also need pro version of VDJ to use Advanced config. If you have it please register it here on site and make sure you have the latest version of VDJ Pro as you can download it after you register your serial number to the site.

There is also a chance that the Mic is only offering a Single MONO channel, so you will need to set the Advanced Sound Setup to MONO and choose Input 1 for the Mic (single line)
Check the Audio Midi Setup of your Mac to verify that your Mic is offering the proper number of inputs.
Note : The Advanced Sound Setup is need in this case. If the Mic is offering stereo inputs and the Sound Setup only refers to a single Sound Card, then indeed the Advanced Sound Setup is not needed.
Advanced Sound Setup and Broadcasting features (among others) are offered from Basic Version http://www.virtualdj.com/products/basic.html
If you have purchased a license of Basic or Pro Full version, register your serial number and download the latest available version from your Download Center, or purchase one and support the software ans its future development.

Did you set the mic up in windows first? Always go through the windows config before running the VDJ config.
