Sujet: Stars under our names / level of user - Page: 1

Cette partie de ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes

So I believe it was explained before that the more interaction you had in the forums the more stars you get under your name? Believe me guys I wish I could sit and chat with people all day long but with a family, full time job & Djing my time simply doesn't allow it. Shouldn't how long you been a member or how many licenses you have also be considered? I have been a Dj coming on 18 years in 2014. I believe I bought VDJ when you guys were on version 1 (it could be 2).

Just a thought........

I agree that maybe the length of time a user has been around COULD be taken into account. I disagree with number of licences bough as this effectively means people are "buying" stars.

All of that said this is a community and people should be rewarded for what they give to the community. I understand that everyone's circumstances are different and people can give different amounts of time to the community or not as in your case.
I personally believe that the current system works. Remember though it's not just about 1000's of forum posts. It's also about skins, effects and plugins too.

Maybe the new forums will bring something different when they arrive.

It is not necessarily that type of interaction. You can post in every thread but, if it doesn't help anyone, you will not advance. That is the key, positive additions to the community. Create skins, play on VDJR, help users, those will help you advance....

At the end of the day it's down to whether the Atomix staff and teamers like you!

If you don't have the know how to create skins, mappers, plugins etc. (in other words do things that benefit Atomix) then you'll really have your work cut out. You can be here for years posting info, tips & tricks, helping people and so on...

As the saying goes, it's not what you know - it's who you know. :-)

IMHO of course

I'm simply being honest. I'm stating my opinion and in my experience that's how things work around here.

I think the job of starring people is given to the moderators, rather than actual Atomix staff - which means that if a mod doesn't see eye to eye with you for some reason then you're unlikely to be given a star.

There's a story behind how I got raised to exp pro for instance, which I won't go into publicly. :-)

Groovin, mods don't do this..... any promotions or demotions are handled by Atomix staff and always have been.

Keith

OK thanks Keith.

Hello everyone, it was not my intent to start any issues with this post. It was an honest question. Look at it this way, 1st you mentioned that VDJ cant rate by licensing because would be like buying a title but they already do that. Any body can buy the VDJ Pro and they are listed as a professional. Even if they just started, so they just bought a title. But someone like me who has 18 years Djing, about im guessing about 10 years with VDJ can have the same rating as a beginner who just bought VDJ Pro? Im sorry I am not that computer savy when it comes to skins & plugins. Nor do I have the time. I struggle to find the time to do everything else I have to just to keep Djing.

I just wanted to bring this up so maybe some thought would go into this process moving forward. The stars are not that important to me and it doesnt change the fact that I really do appreciate VDJ for the solid product they have.

i think the current system is working

some form of helping users (licensed and otherwise) is very important as it should be

some form of forum input that is positive is necessary

extra-ordinary contributions and support like plug-ins or expo participation are recognized .......

a system where various contributions are considered in aggregate is probably best ......

it's not physically possible for all to participate the same way and i think that is understood.......

so i think it's working well

In the six years I have been part of the forum I would say decisions regarding forum status have been handled in a fair manner.

There doesn't seem to have been much focus lately but this is probably in part due to the work going in to V8 and the amount of active users certainly has dropped.

Hopefully this will be resolved and things will get back to the vibrant community that once thrived here.

Keith

i hope we get more active here at the forum

i believe that some of the chippiness we've seen since 7.0 has come to roost........?

if so, 8.0 will give everybody a new chance to shine and help each other

It'd be nice if the more experienced users were able to get a head start on VDJ 8 in order to help with the onslaught of questions which will surely come once it's released...

(hint hint)

Clearly not how it works cause if it did I would have zero stars, come on man. Your a very knowledgeable person but honestly your delivery comes off very bad almost to the point of trying to make others feel stupid for asking. And Yes I am guilty at times as well but you just seem bitter all the time.

I dont mean to be rude but Huey is spot on. Espcially when you use an exclamation point on your very first sentence, to even the new users.

My preferred method is to encourage people to find out things for themselves.

If they are asking something which can be found in the manual for example, then I would suggest they read the manual rather than just hand them the answer on a plate, because long term they'll be better off and not so likely to ask every last little thing on the forum because they know someone will "give them a fish instead of teaching them how to fish".

The way the ranking system is currently setup works quite well. Atomix staff is always monitoring the forums and determines who gets leveled up based on the users positive contributions in the forums, demonstration of knowledge, willingness to help others, etc. Creating skins and other plugins and practical experience in the field are not necessary to increase your level. A user could have 40 years of experience as a DJ and decide to buy Pro today... that doesn't mean that they have the tools or experience to be able to use the software effectively or have the ability to help other users in the forum.

Being consistent, positive and helping other users makes a community strong.

I paid for my first 2 extra stars. I see the "reserved forum" section, and frankly I can't seem to get access to it no matter how much I participate in forum chats.

I've posted a bunch of helpful information to people and participate more than someone who posts nothing but less than others but I still have 3 stars. Not saying I need a star but how much do you have to post to get something extra?

As I stated earlier there's not been too much focus on the forum of late. Can't remember the last time someone was promoted but it's certainly quite a few months now.

As Andrew says it's not the holy grail or anything, in fact the reserved forums are hardly used either.

The only real advantage is getting to beta test software at VIP level but that is few and far between.
